    MKVI GTI Suspension Tweaks

One for the moderators, unsure of which thread to post this topic.

Seeking advise for GTI specific suspension tweaks e.g. Eibach Pro-kit & Anti-roll bar kit.

Since switching from my old Integra DC5 Type-R (with Eibach Pro-kit springs) to the MKVI GTI (non-ACC), the most noticable difference on the GTI is its lesser steering wheel sharpness when turning into corners and more body-roll. The steering feels less direct hence the need to turn the steering wheel a lot more then the DC5. The GTI feels 'taller' contributing to the body-roll.

Been looking at Eibach online, reading White James' write-ups and noticed some members like Romp who has ordered Eibachs.
    Would like to know:
    1. Effectiveness of/experiences from the Eibach Pro-kit and Anti-roll kit specific to the GTI MKVI in terms of performance and suitability along side the stock suspension setup. I assume these are the ones listed as being for the 2.0 TSI specific.
    2. Ride comfort comparison to stock.
    3. Will the combination of the Pro-kit and Anti-roll kit effectively address the steering sharpness and body-roll issue. Is the difference worth the money spent?
    4. Assuming that camber adjustments is not required as the Pro-kit presents minimal lowering of the ride height (1.2") compared to the sportsline (2.0").

I am not looking to spend a fortune on suspension upgrades for track/race use, just the most effective for normal/daily (sometimes spirited) driving.

Other options? Or best just to accept the GTI as is.

Eibach ProKit will similar ride to OE springs and work well in the mid range of the spring. They were very noisy in the MKV GTI with spring bind on big compression hits and exhibit a varied spring rate as the body of the vehicle leans into the corner, going from soft to hard as they are not linear like OE springs. They are a cheap upgrade, but I wouldn't buy them again due to poor NVH, spring bind and non-linear spring rate. No need for aftermarket sway bars for the Mark 6 Golf GTI (Golf R needs them). Save your money for a set of coilovers. If I had a non-DCC MK6 GTI - I'd be looking at a set of KW Comfort Coilover with a very minimal drop in ride height to maintain clearance & OE wheel alignment settings. For something more sporty on a budget - I'd consider the HPA Motorsport 'ST Coilovers' that are the poor cousin of the KW Variant 1 coilover. ST Coilovers are made in the USA (KW made in Germany) and ST use Nickel coat instead of INOX chrome on the KW coilovers. ST coilovers cost about $USD800 + $USD350 (check HPA Motorsport Website). With AUD near parity - coilovers way to go as Eibach ProKit sources locally will cost about $700. Again: Golf Mark 6 has a 2mm larger rear sway bar -v- MKV GTI (24mm -v- 22mm) and XDS takes care of understeer. As for heavier steering - DCC in Sport best option - or - wider wheels and some more neg camber, but this will hardly make much difference.

    Cheers
    WJ

Thanks WhiteJames, i'll have to start saving!
Forgot to mention the noise level but you picked that up.

True, the local Eibach suppliers wanted around $600-700 for my previous set of DC5 springs so I got them from the US which cost around $450-500 landed. This was about 3-4 years ago.
