    MK4 suspension components - components?

    hi there guys

ill keep it as short and sweet as i can

basically my golf is riding like a piece of poo at the moment, with every single little crack or bump in the road causing a disc in my back to dislodge... also seems to be lots of creeks etc coming from the front end and theres a bit of a noise coming from the back due to the drivers side rear wish bone bush being shagged... fairly normal for a 9 odd year car im hoping...

basically after an idea of what needs replacing in relation to bushings, bump stops etc in addition to the struts and springs as i have no idea of what the suspension setup consists of on these cars. thought id ask on here rather than a workshop which either has no idea or is out to rip me off

also with bushings, would nolathene (spelling?) ones cuase the ride to be significantly rougher than standard? just asking as i do lots of driving and a stiff and bumpy ride would drive me nuts pretty quickly, hence im probably looking for just replacements for the facory rubber ones...not too sure though...

    cheers dan

Dan, get a pair of anti roll bar bushes for the front bar. They go oversize with age and start rattling over bumps. The rear axle mounts should only be replaced with std rubber one. Due to the angle s the axle moves through, poly mounts just don't work.

Front wishbone bushes, just replace the front bush with ones from a TT, they are stiffer rubber. Again, poly is out. I have them and wouldn't do it again, they squeak loads and it's annoying.

Bumpstops are probably rubber on the MK4 unlike the foam organic ones of yesteryear on the MK2s and 3s. I don't see any advantage using poly ones unless you have lowered it significantly on std style suspension. Coilovers would have there own supplied with them I reckon.

cheers for that, got another quickie while im at it

from what i gather people are tending to import suspension components from overseas due to the savings that can be made

im looking at either cheaper coilovers ie. H&R, koni reds, or a cup kit (budget of around $1500), what are some good reliable retailers that will ship to Aus?
