Maxxis for MTBs is a different company than Maxxis for cars. Maxxis for cars is owned by a religious cult & I wouldn't buy them purely for that reason.
Nexen - cheap & cheerful but not fantastic. Personally, I wouldn't buy them.
The 280 doesn't mean that anyone (except my Dad maybe )will get 280km of driving out of them. It is a rating in comparison to other tyres by the same manufacturer.
You don't say what model Falkens you have but if your happy with them, go for it. I realise you pay Canberra tax but have you tried Option 1 Garage? You might find that Kumho or Federal 595RS-R is cheaper from them despite the shipping cost to ACT. Fitting/balance would be about $10 a tyre from Jax or similar.
