i would look for coilover suspension. it costs a bit more but definately worth it as you have the option of adjusting the height. i bought springs then upgraded well worth it

Are these worth using to lower my Ssat, for the price?
Obviously I dont have much idea about suspension..
Thanks

hey brett how's it!
for lowering springs, they will definitely improve the look of the car and if you arent too fussed about going around corners fast, then they'd be right up your alley.
there are a number of things to consider, though:
1. if you get springs only, this will make your shocks wear out faster. things that we take for granted e.g. not slowing right down for speed bumps, driving quickly into driveways, etc etc will take their toll on a shock absorber that has to work with shorter springs.
2. if you get springs only, your ability to corner might seem sportier and flatter, but because the rebound/damping rates for the shock absorber will now be different to that of the lowering spring, you'll very likely be taking a step back in terms of cornering ability. IF, however, you dont thrash the crap out of your car when you see a set of twisty roads, namely, if you arent pushing the car that hard around corners, then it shouldnt really matter that you have mismatched suspension.
3. coilies are the best option from a handling/ going around corners point of view, but they are expensive and quite frankly, they can be uncomfortable on your daily drive, especially if you end up going with cheaper ones, apparently.
other option is springs AND shocks, but kits can cost near the price of coilovers, for which reason i would get the coilovers.
that being said, im getting springs installed on monday- i drive mellow in the city, and i want my car to look better, plus i got a great deal. when i have the moulah, i will definitely be getting coilovers as i love love love love twisty roads.
i dont see anything wrong with just springs if you're a fairly mellow driver who drives sensibly around town. i reckon there would be plenty of things to do before getting coilovers. if you got lowering springs, i'd likely suggest that you'd want to get a computer remap, with bigger air intake, and dump pipe for the exhaust, not to mention slightly bigger wheels with lower profile, better tyres, before going coilover suspension (IMO)
cheers

yeah no problem brett.
i reckon you'll be fine with the lowering springs- there is nothing wrong with doing things in small steps (i am modding my polo diesel, in very small, gradual steps).
with the lowering springs it will give you a feel for the different suspension set up on your car and you'll be able to learn abit more, first hand, about your car without having to fork out $1500 for a set of coilovers.
and yes- rubber rubber rubber. good rubber is (not on VWWA but in general) hugely underestimated with regards to handling improvement.
slightly bigger wheels and much much better rubber was the first thing i did.
I have a 07 Passat wagon and changed my springs to Eibach and upgraded my wheels from 17 to 18 inch last month
The ride is certainly harder but it is bearable. I drove it up to Canberra and back to Melb last month and could feel the improved handling especially on the B twisty roads. It certainly looks better too reducing the gap between the arch and the tyres.
With the coils, it depends on the age of the car and condition of the shocks. The workmanship may be the same as they need to remove the shocks to change the springs. Hence, it might be good to change the shocks in one hit to save some labour cost and get a bundled proce. I have about 65k on the clock and the shocks are still running fine.
Ok so I have decided to get lowering springs..AND new shocks to go with em. Oh nd some 18x8
Hoping this is the right move.
So any suggestions on what type to buy, remember this is my daily drive and I'm more interested in 'looks' than 'racing'.
Cheers

Hey mate I just put a set of eibachs and bilsteins in my gti. i now have the old springs out of my gti, they're not stock springs as the ride height was about the same as my current eibach pros (obviously handling not as good). if you feel like making a trip down to brissy you can have the springs and my shocks (done 113000 kms) for a case of beer... that's if they'll fit
hey brett if youre going to go both springs AND struts, i'd suggest really really really shopping around and reading about what is good for your car- in the passat forums, in american passat forums etc etc as well, as to get both springs and struts from ebay might be a pretty dodgy thing in terms of what brands may look good before you've been able to really clue up on the situation.
i can tell you, i got springs put in this week and whilst i know / can tell the mismatched nature of the stock struts not working awesomely with the lowered springs, the difference in handling is amazing- its so much flatter through corners and the car is much more predictable, it looks better, and it really motivates me to put a hold on power mods for now and address the suspension for sure.
if you're adamant that you must get both springs AND shocks, check out this place:
http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pag...l?car=vwpassat
it will give you an idea of whats out there.
''better'' brands will be weitec, h&r, koni, bilstein, kw.
if you really are going to go down this path i'd probably not recommend ebay shocks and spring combos as the price will be right and it will look good, but probably wouldnt hold a candle to the quality of the better brands/ brands that have had a reputedly longer association with your particular car.
cheers,
scott
Eibach seem to be a favourite for springs, a lot of people go with the Bilstein B8 + Eibach Pro Kit.....it's what I have done and Lito too by the looks. I can tell you these shocks and springs will make your car feel awesome, I think I can go around a corner at twice the speed now and the car never feels unstable. If ride height is more your concern then coilovers may be a better option, personally I only wanted a 15-20cm drop (bad roads) and was more concerned about performance.
Check here for springs - http://www.eibach.ashop.com.au/b/196...olkswagen.html
I saved 50% off my springs by buying here - they dont have all the models just the 'limited stock' stuff. The springs I got weren't exactly correct. The springs I have are for a 12v v5 Bora & VR5 Golf, and I have the 24v v5 Bora.....the difference? NONE, other than front may go a little lower due to the difference in weight of the cars - the difference in weight though is bugger all, so these springs work fine. You may find you can use springs for other model Passats, but email the guys and they will tell you waht will work and what wont if you are unsure - sales@eibach.com.au
As for shocks, well like I said lots of ppl are happy with Bilstein, I saved quite a bit by buying online from the USA (they may call the model something different like 'Sprint' instead of a B8 ), even with postage. They came within 2 weeks as well, whereas local dealers in Adelaide were telling me I would have to wait at least 1 month and pay more!
Good luck!
