    Smile Lowering Passat

Does anyone know of any companies that make springs (prefer to avoid coilovers) that will lower my passat around 50-60mm? Tried different websites but only really seem to offer about 20-30mm maximium.
It's an 07 TDI wagon if that helps
    Cheers,
    Joel

50-60mm just on springs would leave you with a very very stiff ride. As oyu have no doubt found out, a "normal" drop for springs is prob max 40mm.
If you really must avoid coilovers (a quality set will be better in all departments then firmer springs on stock shock, you can afford them, you bought a passat), you may be able to get Kings (shuddder) or someone to make custom springs for you...

50-60mm's is a fairly large drop for a spring, we do have a few springs available from FK and H&R, but they are 40mm max.

If you would like to get 50-60mm, I'd suggest a set of good coilovers with adjustable dampening if you would like to keep a comfortable ride. I've been very happy with the FK Konigsports on my past cars and highly recommend them.

kinda wanted to avoid coilovers as its my first car, and that a fair wack of money to spend on suspension.
how much are they around anyway?

Dropping your car that much, you would want to get some new shocks to match the springs otherwise it will be a pretty awful ride (very stiff) and you will kill the shocks rather quickly.
Once you add it all up, coilovers will seem to be the way to go, will often be just as good a ride and will give you the option to alter the height to how you want it exactly (aswell as dampner pending on what you get).

yeah but i can probally get some kings springs rather cheap, and ride quality doesnt phase me too much.
for the money of coilovers i'd rather look at getting bags...

Besides still gotta get some sweet rims yet

Hi Joel, I have a 07 Passat Wagon v6. I have the same intention but intend to go on the wheels first. I'm considering 18inch as 19 may be too harsh.
A tyre shop suggested to change the wheels first and then work the height..Not sure if he wants to sell the wheels badly.

before getting low profile wheels and cheap springs, you really should ride in a car that is similar to what you want.

Its all good to say that you don't mind, but when you are travelling down the road at 30k and every minor change in the road surface goes through your spine, youll wish you had gone the other way.

Air bags are pretty damn expensive usually. I bought coilovers (for different model) for under 1k landed. Ap Coilovers, they are made for the B5, around $900 landed. They are not KW's, but pretty good for the cost.

Short springs with stock shocks can be crashy, but if you don't like driving fast, cornering at speed, etc, that might be a good option for you. Generally when you first change the springs, the suspension will feel tighter, but the mismatched rate of the springs and shocks will wear the shocks out at a much higher rate.

If you do go for 20's or 19's, try to keep them lite, unsprung weight (wheels and brakes) can also reduce the handling of the car.

The passat is a "big" car. 18s will look undersized. Why spend all that money on 18s for it to still not look "right"?
