Dropping your car that much, you would want to get some new shocks to match the springs otherwise it will be a pretty awful ride (very stiff) and you will kill the shocks rather quickly.
Once you add it all up, coilovers will seem to be the way to go, will often be just as good a ride and will give you the option to alter the height to how you want it exactly (aswell as dampner pending on what you get).

yeah but i can probally get some kings springs rather cheap, and ride quality doesnt phase me too much.
for the money of coilovers i'd rather look at getting bags...

Besides still gotta get some sweet rims yet

Hi Joel, I have a 07 Passat Wagon v6. I have the same intention but intend to go on the wheels first. I'm considering 18inch as 19 may be too harsh.
A tyre shop suggested to change the wheels first and then work the height..Not sure if he wants to sell the wheels badly.

ohh ok then, i was considering 20's maybe 19's but i kinda wanted to avoid that 4WD look haha.
i'd go the 19's if i were you as 18" is only one more than standard

before getting low profile wheels and cheap springs, you really should ride in a car that is similar to what you want.

Its all good to say that you don't mind, but when you are travelling down the road at 30k and every minor change in the road surface goes through your spine, youll wish you had gone the other way.

Air bags are pretty damn expensive usually. I bought coilovers (for different model) for under 1k landed. Ap Coilovers, they are made for the B5, around $900 landed. They are not KW's, but pretty good for the cost.

Short springs with stock shocks can be crashy, but if you don't like driving fast, cornering at speed, etc, that might be a good option for you. Generally when you first change the springs, the suspension will feel tighter, but the mismatched rate of the springs and shocks will wear the shocks out at a much higher rate.

If you do go for 20's or 19's, try to keep them lite, unsprung weight (wheels and brakes) can also reduce the handling of the car.

The passat is a "big" car. 18s will look undersized. Why spend all that money on 18s for it to still not look "right"?

I guess you are right. better to go 2 sizes up. Only concern is the ride.

Got quote for H&R springs that will drop 30-40mm. $817 incl install in Melb. Eibach is $880 installed.

    This forum errs towards H&R

    Any thoughts?

Yeah but again, passat s big car, guards can accomodate the "proper" sized tyres. Yes your aspect ratio will have ot change to keep your rolling diameter the same. Though if it is a little bit larger your speedo will be more accurate.

Either aren't a bad price. There are heaps of combinations, a lot of the US tuning sites have different options. They are probablky the 2 "premium" breands of springs. BMW or MB, much of a muchness (essentially)

Could even look at neuspeed at www.rennenhaus.com
he is a forum sponsor and could get you a better deal, at least on puchase price?

If you have to do something RIGHT NOW, sure go the king springs. Or be patient and get quality european stuff designed for your car in mind and be 100% happy.

Bags done proper are 5k+ (kit, shipping, gfitting, engineering)
See Dom's "BEST" B3 wagon thread, Mason-tech nad Bagyard do a lot of VW stuff, though i'd figure your kit would need to be fully custom.

Just be patient and get a high quality set of damper/height adjustable coils. Mine in my mk3 were 550 landed and sure its "fun" when its absolutely slammed, buit raise it and it feels very very nice, better than my mates pedder/pedders or pedders/kings combos for sure..

yeah moneys really not much of an issue so i figure im risking $300 or so to potentially save $1000 is a fair bet.

i get what you saying about the handling and stuff, though realistically I dont see a turbo diesel passat as a 'sports' car so thats not too much of an issue.

if it doesnt work out and i hate it, its really on $300.
