Golf struts - swap between series?

I'm looking for some secondhand Bilstien struts to suit a MK1 Golf. Can anyone advise if the MK 2, 3 or 4 struts will fit?
(they'll be getting rebuilt/revalved and will have new springs - so stuff like different rates are not a problem).

Are the later struts phsically the same dimensions, especially the hub mount?

mk2 and mk3 are the same but different rates, mk4 has a totally different rear end but that still doesnt answer ur question.

    Cheers, thanks Peedman -

I should have said that I'm only looking for the fronts....
    So MK1, 2 & 3 are the same?

    NOPE

mk1 is different from mk's 2 and 3. not interchangeable, sorry.

mk1 has a lot less suspension travel and it wont bolt up.

there's plenty of mk1 stuff around, you just gotta learn how to look.

Koni do a complete strut assembly new for mk1, get your hands on a catalogue. i run koni in my mk3 and very happy. i have bilstein in my mk1 on the front, and koni in the back. i love both equally.
