Anyone got any thoughts on putting Eos 17" wheels on a 118 TSI. Slight concern because the EOS runs 235/45/17 and the the Golfs with 17s run 225/45/17 - would the 10mm cause issues with handling/alignment/speedo reading?
Thanks
Um, that is not true.
235 = tyre width. 45 ratio of height to width.
Therefore, when you increase the width and keep the same ratio figure, you're also increasing the circumference of the tyre which means you create an error in your speedo!
Specification. Sidewall. Radius. Diameter. Circumference. Revolutions. Speedometer. Odometer. Difference
225/45-432.... 101mm.... 317mm.. 634mm.... 1993mm........ 502/km...... 100km/h..... 15000km.. N/A
235/45-432.... 106mm.... 322mm.. 643mm.... 2021mm........ 495/km...... 98.6km/h.... 14790km.. 1.42%
Thankfully the Golf already has ~7% over-read in it to account for this type of lack of consumer knowledge (and for many other reasons). So at stock you'd normally be doing ~93km/h when your speedo said 100km/h. After changing to these tyres, you'll be doing ~94.3km/h
Check out the calculator here, will tell you all the overall differences including speedo readout between different tyre sizes:

+1 what Coreying said.
I'd give it a crack & check your speedo with a GPS.

speedo on the vws are out so much one or two km more wont hurt haha
Most likely to be an issue is the offset difference (if any).
I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that the Eos runs Passat offsets (~ET40) while the Golf runs at about ET54 (it's a weird hybrid of the Passat & the Golf).
Combined with the extra 10mm of tyre width, there may be rubbing issues under cornering load, and particularly if you decide to lower the Golf at all.
The calculator that Rybky mentioned will help, as will this one:

but you'll need the current and proposed offsets to plug into that one.
There's a wheel & tyre database here for reference too:
