I've socialised the situation around the tyre shops near where I live. The consensus is "they ****ed up and scratched it with the tyre machine" universally. Each shop is suprised they didn't own it and tried to blame me.

I've arranged to have the wheel repaired via Burwin VW service department's recommended repairer. The whole team there are awesome and I cannot begin to recommend you take your car there enough. It was never really about the money, it's about being treated like a criminal when they are at fault.

I've also written a very polite and succinct letter to corporate head office complaints department enclosed with a copy of the invoice and print shop copies of my pictures. I hope it leads to a positive action from corporate towards this franchise and others do not have to experience this.

Thanks to all for your input.

Twitter or Facebook your concerns that seems to get corporates to react as they don't like bad/negative publicity.

    An update:

The owner of the shop in question Neville is a champion. It seems he has some challenging staff undermining his business on occasion. He refunded me the difference between the $80 refund given and the actual cost to repair the rim from my repair invoice.

How did this come to pass?

I called Bob-Jane corporate and spoke to Mark who is the Victorian franchise manager and he looked into the matter and got in touch with the franchise owner and arranged the whole thing.

    A good outcome!

That really sucks man - I'd be beyond p*ssed if this happened to me, but good result in the end even after the ordeal.

I always make a point of saying "these wheels are incredibly rare and expensive so please be careful" when handing them over to my tyre fitter haha

Dear Mr. Bob-Jane. I am sadface.

I will NEVER shop at a bob Jane again! I had a situation where I was shown a tyre they deemed unable to be put back onto the rim ( came in to have tyres swapped for even wear ). The tyre had a massssive air bubble inside and said it had to be replaced in which i insisted they fit back on as I would not be buying the tyre from them... Long story short I took the car to where the tyres were from so he could inspect it.. What would you know we took every tyre off the rim and NO WHERE to be seen. We both swear to this day that i was shown someone else's tyre in hope they would net an extra sale out of me. Worse yet my tyres on the rear were well and truly chewed out within 6 months of that visit which I suspect they royally f**ked the alignment. Enclosed on this reply is a picture of just how bad the camber wear was. Towards the middle of the tyre will give you an idea how much tread was on the tyre BEFORE they got their dirty hands on my stuff! Never again!!

That doesn't look like camber damage to me.

That looks like a burst air bubble caused possibly by slamming a pot hole (and then the bubble was rubbing excessively on something, possibly the road). There is no obvious camber damage, which would be consistent around the entire circumference of the tyre tread.
