So I've had Weitec Hicon GT coilovers in my Mk4 for a few months now. The fronts have been making a rubbing noise the whole time, but I thought it was the swaybar rubbing on the driveshafts. I jacked it up and found that it's actually the coilover shafts making a creaking noise as the body rises (they don't creak on the way back down). It's coming from the shaft seal area. I took a video:
The seal plates are not loose, they're solidly screwed into the damper body. Should it be lubricated? Or maybe the seals are somehow too tight on the shaft? I got them from the UK (Awesome GTI) so I doubt that I can return them. They're riding pretty stiff, but I expected that from coilovers. They improved my front end traction a fair bit, so I wouldn't say they're not functioning properly, just that the creaking is really annoying, which is fairly loud as it resonates into the cabin. Anyone has coilovers doing the same thing? What do?
