I was told the limit has now been lowered again to $900 ?

My bro just import a set of tyres from USA so he told me this.

Sorry Gareth but if the goods are marked USA there is NO IMPORT DUTY, no matter what the value. This is due to our FTA (Free Trade Agreement) with the US Government. Previously to get around the 10% or 5% duty you could mark the items for a 4WD model which also had no duty.

Ordering from Tirerack simply email them first for an accurate freight charge and tell them it is for Australia. They will break up the delivery into multiple deliveries so as there are no extra fees. You will simply pay the web price + delivery (door to door) + exchange rate.

Be real careful about undervaluing the price of goods as customs can easily check the website for true $$$ value.

agree clubbie, for goods made in the USA they are duty free, but if the goods are purchased from the US, but made in China, for example, then the 5% duty still applies.

Also, even if you but 'made in USA' goods, if the value exceeds $1000, you still have to pay GST, even if they are duty exempt
