hi,
sent my mkv jetta in for service today, and decided id have the "VW suspension travel limiter kit" fitted to before i put on my new 18" wheels. a certain perth dealer quoted 1hrs work ($140) to fit them, then called back and said that they wanted 2hrs work ($280).
admittedly i dont know much about these sorts of things, but thought i would ask here first to see if it's DIY-able.
These are the thingies here:
anyway, the instructions say:
"INSTALLATION ON FRONT AXLE
Move the shock absorber protective tube to the top.
Remove the circlip on the delimiter, slide the delimiter onto the piston rod and attach the circlip to the delimiter.
Place the shock absorber protective tube back in position again.
INSTALLATION ON REAR AXLE
Remove the shock absorber (3 screws), dismantle the top of the shock absorber (remove one screw), remove the protective tube together with the series buffer.
Remove the circlip on the delimiter, slide onto piston rod, re-attach circlip.
Fit the standard parts in reverse order."
Just wondering how difficult removing the rear shock absorber, and 'dismantling the top of the shock absorber' is...
i thought id at least ask, as if i did it myself i could spend the $280 on tools.
Also, would doing it myself void the car's warranty?
cheers,
mike.
