Is this beyond DIY repair ?

I bought a set of wheel for my wife's car, one of the has this damage about 6cm long, the cut is about 1 - 2mm deep. Is this DIY repairable ??? I'm inspired by rayray086 diy repair thread http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...9&postcount=34

Take it to All aluminium welding at Chipping Norton. See Gary or Josh. I'm sure they could fix it.(02) 97557264.

I think its beyond diy repair, theres too much missing from the rash to putty over. They fix this by welding material onto that edge then machine smoothing it out so its looks the same.

Just reading this thread after joining the group. I gather the OP may have this problem fixed but thought I chime in to mention I have my wheels damaged by gutter scrapes. I have used Ossie of http://www.mobilealloywheelrepairs.com.au/
& am quite satisfied with the work he has done.
Here's the before & after pics of one of the wheels being fixed on site.

Hey ipy, just realised you've tried to link pic attachments from another forum directly here - you'll have to have the images hosted by another source (photobucket, imageshack etc.) before you can hotlink it. You can see it in your post at the moment as it's loaded in your cache, but everyone else just sees white space!

    Edit:

Anymore info on mobilealloywheelrepairs? Do they come to you? How much did it cost you to get that damage fixed?? It came out great

Apologise for the image link confusion & thanks for fixing this. I had 2 wheels repaired at a cost of $150. The one shown was the worse of the two wheels repaired. Yes, Ossie the owner came to my place for the repairs & did the job under 2 hours . Here's a link to some of the pictures I took of the process..
