    BBS RS 240 custom

Just finished these and was pretty chuffed with them, thought id share

Been waiting on a set of 14" RS centres being returned from canada(long story, guy wanted his polished,we split a set, polished the centres, sent them over and waited on him splitting his and returning them)waited on lips coming from Image which they hucked up but we finally got all the bits back and started work. Ceramic'd the weaves as per, mike polished the barrels and faces of the lips back when they got split/delivered

Fast forward to the other day ........... I cut them out the wrapping and gave them a once over and they were pretty marked up and/or still raw finish in areas like the complete reverse off the lip here

following from playing with polishing and satin'd finishes on the trophies and with one of the previous fully polished sets struggling to get a solid seal on the beads I decided to satin the bead areas after id polished the reverse

went over them with some hoch to remove handlin marks and polish remnants

    3 1/2"x14"

    couple trial shots

    getting through prepping the parts

all set up ready to get stuck together

    off to bed with them

and off to bath with him, long day.....

way back when the lips arrived they had been supplied raw as asked for but they had drilled them for the bolts as well....told mike as much and left them in disgust as they were pretty marked up as well.Told Mike to return them and get the blanks that we ordered but he came up to the unit one night during his offshore stint and checked them,he pronounced them 'fine' and he would get the marks out no bother. When he came back onshore he polished the lips, checked the spacing and declared them fit although one or two holes may need a slight 'tweak'.... then wrapped them up in cling film to await the centres getting returned.

Then when I went to build the huckers and silicone up the first barrel, place on the weave, silicon the top of the weave, line up dish and place on,fit the first bolt....

    oh wait I cant........

EVERY HUCKING HOLE was 6.5mm and the dubious out of sync holes are a ****ing mile out although this only seems o really have been on one lip but I wish to hell I had inspected them myself more closely at the time now. So had too re-drill,fix and re-polishing the lips after machining them....

blew the table down and laid fresh microfibres

    laid a bead

    smear

    repeat

lined up the valve just to the left off the diamond in the middle off the centre section part with the bbs info, with them being four stud that puts all the valves tdc,It also means that when you put the caps on the nuts all line up on the same side of the hex facing the valve, you either get a flat side or a point facing it

all four bolted up the same

    nuts on finger tight

    expensive stepping stones lol

    whoring

left them in the office with the heater on over last night to cure, gave the bench a clear and then more microfibres and wood

easily spinnable for applying sealing run without any risk of damage to the lips and barrels

I guess you can just throw sealant on but a little weave ensures theres no trapped air bubbles which when rubbered up and on the car expand and can cause the seal to fail leading to a slow puncture

    finished

and spun a few times with light pressure to spread it evenly

zero trapped air, neat and no wiping necessary
