    plug and redrill

    whats the go with plugging wheels and re drilling to a new offset? so far I can't find any reason that this can't be done. is it in some way unsafe?

    also going to ask here can you shave the back of a wheel to get a larger offset? obviously there is a limit to how much you can shave but has anyone done this before?

    its all dependant on the design of the wheel. You really need to get them inspected by a wheel repair/engineering place to see if they think theyre safe.

    For example shaving material off the mounting face is possible depending on the thickness/composition of that material. I think dom also had some material shaved off his centres where the outer lip mounts to gain a mm or 2.

    As Tim said. To elaborate, if you're redrilling from a 4 stud to a 5 stud (or vice versa), make sure the hub is flat and not ribbed/flower-shaped. I had a set of wheels that had its original 5x114.3 plugged, and redrilled 4x100. I had no problems, drove the same as with OEM or other wheels. Hub was flat-backed, and there was enough room to accomodate a smaller PCD. Which leads me to my next point - if you're redrilling to a smaller PCD, sometimes it may not be best as it drills in too close to the edge of the centrebore, or any other thing towards the middle. I couldn't redrill my BBS RSIIs as it would have took out some of the centrecap screw thread. Not impossible, but it would've been undesirable as I wouldn't be able to run centrecaps. Just talk to a wheel guy about it.

    and now too look like a noob,
    I thought you could just straight out redrill on flat backed wheels you just drilled in the space between the original PCD only need to plug where the old PCD would intersect with the new PCD.
    And I thought with plug and re-drill it would let me re-drill on a ribbed/flower shape back over the top of the old PCD.

    trying to keep as big of an offset as I can to run wider lips on these RS.

    all going to go from 5x114.3 to 5x100

    The ribs on one set are only like 6mm deep so was hoping to to shave that off completely and then redrill

    center bore on one set 61 and the other is like 67.



    Guess I'll just run them down to the wheel guys and see what they say.

    I'm also in the same boat, i talked and emailed these guy's here:

    and they were really nice (but in lillydale which is quite far from me, although courier is cheap)

    my wheels have had someone drill them out i think so there is no "flange" on the 4 x 100 bolt holes....i was quoted 50 per corner which i reckon is pretty good, be happier if there was a place close to melbourne though...
