What was final freight, I imagine you insured them in transit? Fitting expense? Any further update on how they perform in wet and dry?

Did you consider the ContiProContact tyres at all? They also tested superbly. Second only to Michelin Primacy MXM4 (unavailable in Aust).

I'm after 235-45-17 tyres for my Golf 2l Tdi with 17x7.5 Denver rims. THIS THREAD

I am close on choosing Continental ContiProContact 94V with a teadwear of 400. Seems to have fantastic reviews on tirerack. I'm after a grand touring tyre (quiet, good treadwear, very good in dry or wet).

Just noticed the Conti ExtremeContact DW (340) and DWS (540).

Ideally first choice is Michelin Primacy MXM4 but it appears that is not available in Australia, but the ContiProContact is...though an aging tyre.

Tirerack was not able to show me how ContiProContact and ExtremeContact DWS compare/contrast. Any tyre people know between these two Contis?

    hey bushranger,
mine were just under 1k landed
think shipping was 300-350 odd of that. Other costs were 20$ for bank transfer, and think i paid 70$ for all 4 tyres mounted and balacned.
I went with them from the info u see in this tread and they just appealed to me after reading the reviews.
Im yet to drive on them (waiting for some hub rings) but they are a impressive looking tyre, guys in the tyre shop i got them fitted commented on the build/layout of the tyre and were very suprised i got something like that for that price (dont sell them in aus so cant compare prices)
i generally buy from them for the odd sizes, normal ones like what you are looking at may be cheaper at your local shop.

I've got 4 x 235/40/18 XL Conti DW in my garage at the moment for my CC.

As I only got 17,000kms out of the CSC3 Contiseals on at the moment ($450 per corner is the best local quote I've got) I thought it was worth a gamble on some longer tread wear vs performance (and at $944 landed for 4 corners it was attractive!). When pushed the CC understeers badly being so front heavy, but the traction under acceleration with the CSC3's has been great, especially in the wet (I know 4 motion is a big part of that, but the tyres never break traction).

The CSC's are also great compared to the Dunlops that came on the 17" GTI wheels I've got, which are some of the worst tyres I've driven on recently...

I'm planning on getting the DW's fitted in a couple of weeks, so will post back once I have some km's on them to compare to the CSC3..

The tread is seriously deep on the new DW's with massive central channels. I'm assuming the pattern would give a lot of block squirm on a track, but I'll never take the CC near one, so its more about real world performance for me.

Thanks Dylan & Pook for your posts wrt your ExtremeContact DWS & DW. I look forward to reading about them (here) as you both experience them. As shown in another thread, I ended up going for the Jax tyres special on the Michelin Pilot Sport 3. So far (dry) superb tyres. the ESP does not activate at all on hard throttle. I needed some emergency evasive manoeuvre due to some mad road rager on Ipswich Motorway. The PS3 made it not only possible, but safe! Keep cool on the roads everyone, and cheers.
