    The GTI's (Golf and Polo) apparently feel quicker due to their FWD nature and lighter weight making them more "chuckable".
    The AWD and heavier weight makes the R feel more tame even though you are going harder since you are more in control.

    Light weight wheels does make a difference but it's only 12kg or so all up.
    Every bit helps though

    Everyone's got a different formula for sprung vs unsprung weight, but even the conservatives reckon a kilo shed from unsprung weight is worth 4 sprung.

    Agreed. Light weight wheels and brakes. Especially brakes as the OEM ones are SOOO heavy. Wil make a difference in performance.
