    Something A little Different

Over the last few month's I've had my old apprentice's car here that needed some finishing off for a massive power upgrade.

This isn't your normal sort of build either. This was all built properly, from the front bumper to the back bumper! A complete package!

The part's list is very long, but all the part's are high quality & shouldn't have any problem withstanding the abuse there about to cop! haha

This was his everydayer he restored while he worked under me, but left all the driveline stock & had always planned to fit something that could make real pump fuel power & could be driven on the street, but could also be drag raced & abuse at car event's. Didn't help when I taught him how to drive in my old burnout Ute either! haha

The car came to me on a tow truck not running, but with the all major stuff fitted incl. engine, trans, diff, full custom exhaust.

It was left up to me & my own device's with help from my old apprentice & some very late night's/morning (One morning I was up till 4.30am!) to finish this car off how I would have done it if it were my own

This is how it was before one of our good friend's got to it & does awesome work with a few car's to grace the cover of Street Machine & a few other Magazines! It was all original under the bonnet! Was a factory fitted 253! haha

A little bit of rust repairs & a few holes filled & some black base coat with a mat clear coat! Real nice!

Then add in a 406 cube small block chev, built by a friend. It's chock full of good gear incl. AFR, Scat, SRP, Clevelite, ARP, Comp Cam's, Manley, Mellings, Moroso, Felpro, TCI, Holley!

Was dynoed recently on a very tight engine dyno. Some engine's have gone upto this dyno with a 560hp dyno reading at well known Melb. dyno's & have been dissapointed when it show's 520hp!

I'll let the pic's speak for themselves. This was run on PULP 96 too! Not BP Ulitmate or anything like that.

It was left up to me to basically do all the wiring incl. engine loom, battery lead's, kill switched, Ignition lead's, Gauges, fuel system etc. & then finish off all the little bit's & piece's. Basically everything to get the car to run & drive

Wiring loom's. I tried to hide as much of it all as possible, as when it's all messy, it can take away from the overall look of the engine. Most of it run's along the oil pan & also through the intake manifold into a couple of plug's above the transmission.

All of these are tucked down out of sight & run between the engine block & extractors.

Boot mounted battery, battery lead's & power kill switch. Note: the fuel filter up the back! There is now a stock repro rubber boot mat fitted.

All the mounted Ignition Equipment incl, circuit breaker's, relay's, & I suggested to use a Comp Cam's Vacuum Tank to assist with brake booster vacuum. This has one very big cam, so engine vacuum is at a short & can only really be gathered on cruise & over run.! It makes a massive difference to the braking system with a car like this. This mean's the pedal feel & performance are consistent! This car also has the brakes out of my old burnout ute & can pull up pretty well for it's weight & front tyre size!

I decided to use circuit breakers instead of fuses, as the thermo fan's can draw alot of current on start up eg. 60amp spikes, but also as they get older, they start to spike even higher & would just blow the fuses. This way if it spikes high enough, it will just trigger the circuit breaker cutout, but it will come on at a later stage without having to worry about over heating & having to replace blown fuses all the time.
The four relay's are for 3 fan's, & the ignition system.

    Fitted up

Aussie Desert Cooler's "Burnout King" massive radiator with AU Thermo fan's. I wired it so it had a temp switch cut in, but also a overide as well, if he ever feel's the need to melt a set of tyres in a burnout comp. These work absolutely awesome. They pull the temp down from 195F cut in down to approx 175F in less than a minute! There's also a front mount pusher fan which run's permantely. I wired this so it would run all the time, but not while the engine was cranking. The starter need's all the help it can get & it's a high torque Gear Reduction Starter too!

Factory option Monaro GTS Instument Cluster. Gauges fitted incl. a Autometer duel range Tacho with all the good gear in it, shift & oil pressure light's, Temp & oil pressure gauges.
My friend also refurbished the stock HG Prem steering wheel!

Note: The TCI smash & grab shifter. Awesome piece of a equipment & should be on everyone's shopping list with a Powerglide fitted!

Stock interior! Awesome. Only the front bench has been retrimmed & the front door handles & also new floor carpet

    Sitting around waiting

This car is an animal. Even the owner was scared to drive it to start off with, but now he is getting more & more confident with it, which is good. But he still won't get in it with me driving!

    Basic Spec of this is

    406ci chevy
Full custom 3" exhaust incl. custom extractor's with 3.5" collectors
    Powerglide 4000rpm stall
    9" 3.7 gear's billet axles

I took my brother for a drive & he's worked for porsche & also driven alot & been in alot of very fast car's incl. 10sec rotary's, 11sec Evo's & had fast bikes incl GSXR1000 & R1's. But when I took him for a ride, he said it was the most scariest car he had ever been it.

This thing can shake the tyres at 80km/h's easy as & he crapped himself! haha The tyres are 265 on a 8.5" rim too!

I wont' go into detail about what this car can do, but it feel's like it's got a very low 11 - high 10 in it as it sits in full street trim & can powerskid all day long at speed!

    Can't wait for the slick's!

Finished! I can't begin to describe how it feel's to have helped build this car. It's probably the best work I've ever done & If I were to do it all again, I don't think I'd change a thing to it.

A big thanks has to go out to all the people involved in this build, as it wasn't just me who built this. There were numerous people & we all couldn't have done it without each other.

More specifically what upgrades were done to the handling to cope with the power.
