So I've skipped a couple of generations...

...from mk2 to mk5 and bought my fourth Golf, a 2006 GTI. Woooo!

It's lowered with 18" Karthoum rims, remapped ecu (188kW), short shift 6 speed, , xenons, flared guards, colour coded bumpers, chrome mirrors and iPod adapter. Basically everything I would do to it has been done! got it with the 3 year extended factory warranty as well. I'm over the moon! Anyway enough yapping, here are the pics:

    The old and the new...

Looks very nice mate. You should be very happy.

I'm not so keen on the bumper flares.. but its your car, not mine!

Those were a legal requirement for cars delivered with the OEM 18" rims.

But yeah good work. the karthoums suit the GTI nicely. I get the feeling now that prices are softening up a little we are going to see a lot more mk5 gti owners hitting the boards.

Yeah the previous owner told me the same story, why is that? I don't mind them though, they make the car look a tad phatter imo.

its so the wheels dont protrude out beyond the bodywork. karthoums are 8" wide and must have a reasonably aggressive offset i guess? they certainly seem to sit pretty flush in your pics

Cheers. I wouldn't imagine that they'd protrude without the flares, but they do sit pretty flush yeah.

Was the previous owner a vww member? Those mods seem to be pretty consistent with the mk5 owners here.

No, I mentioned the site to him and he hadn't heard of it. He used to own a white small-bumper 16 valve 2-door mk2, I'm sure someone on here probably owns it now.

Haha, cheers. The rear flare has been positioned where the wheel would stick out the most, I guess.
