Shot 2 does it for me.
The others just look really bland since half the shot is whited out from the overexposed sunlight.
Maybe if you shot more like the 4th one it woulnd't have whited out so much.
Some experimenting i did this afternoon.

Yeah, that was more the effect I was experimenting with, a long way to go before I hit it on the head, though. 'tis hard to explain

Actually if you take the first pic and tweak the exposure a little it comes alive, PM me an email address and I will show you what I mean. It is always better to get the exposure closer on the camera though, if you had just backed off the exposure a bit there it would have worked better.
What camera are you using and in which mode?

Hi Adam,
I am aware of this, what you must understand is this kind of picture is what i was trying to acheive, I do realise (and do have photos) where the exposure was backed off and detail was kept/mass flairing wasnt as apparent. This kind of photo is what I am TRYING to do as an example; https://www.chrisbennyimaging.com/wp...06/BI_4642.jpg (Photo belongs to Chris Benny); but I'm still relatively new in Automotive photography, so composing and compensating for such flares is quite difficult and different to portraiture/other, especially when shooting with a black car. I also cloned a fair bit of that flairing in to eliminate trees in the background (i hate trees), if I was able to shoot in more open air I feel that it could be executed a lot cleaner.
2nd photo was to experement with background blending:
Other 2 where single layered shots I happened to get from the afternoon.
Thank you for your help though.
P.S I shoot with a 40d in Manual.

Ahh! OK, sorry, missed the point! I guess when it was titled as sunset shots I just expected sunset colours in the photo.
That image by Chris Benny works because the washed out part is very small, not the focus point of the photo. I think yours would be better cropped down to reduce the space taken up by the glare as it just grabs your attention too much.
And great job the background blend there, I didn't notice at all! Now that I know though ... the lighting looks like studio lights in an outdoor setting, which confuses me.
But hey, I am just an amateur.
