very cool thread mate, makes an interesting read. wish i had found this before i bought a lot of my tuning goodies, saying that i got most of mine at a good price so have done it all on a bit of a budget.

i have numerous questions for you regarding some mods you have done that i am contemplating, rs4 fpv, r8 coils, quick shift, neu flow pipe, intercooler etc. i might pm you to stop clogging up your thread.

i'm fitting my bsh charge pipe next weekend, any tips?

cheers mate and keep up the good work

Not a worry - send me a PM if you want details on anything specifically. As for the BSH charge pipe install, getting the new silicone joiner onto the throttle body and aligned correctly took the longest if i remember correctly. Not sure if the S3 has more / less / same amount of room from between the engine and radiator fans which would make it easier or harder to do on an S3.

My tip would be to secure the silicone joiner to the charge pipe (as per my pic a few pages back) and then to try and slide the other end of the joiner onto the throttle body. Its a VERY tight fit and the throttle body is ribbed so it makes it very difficult to push the silicone joiner on. A little bit of soapy water might help as well? Once the silicone joiner is on the throttle body correctly you can put the worm clamp on from above.

I also had to play around with the alignment of the actual charge pipe as it's a tight fit between the engine block (engine oil cooler) and the radiator fans. Spent a little bit of time aligning that and to give as much clearance as possible between both contact points and its been fine since. I normally get under the car every few months and check everything over, including checking all the parts i have fiddled with for leaks / loose connections / bolts and nuts coming loose etc and have never had a problem with anything except my old 42DD dump pipe which needed adjusting occasionally.

+1 make sure you get before and after sound clips for comparison.... I always forget the before shots until I'm halfway into an install and then it's too late.

Yes ill do a "before" and "after" video showing cold start, rev and take off's similar to what i did about a year ago for my other dump pipes. I have also filmed both my other dump pipes running on the dyno which gives a good indication of the noise as well. They get plenty of views on Youtube so people are obviously keen to hear what different systems sound like.

Put my car up on the hoist this morning at Premier Exhaust and nutted out the "cut n shut" that will be required on my SPM dump pipe in order to fit the resonator in. Basically he agreed with my fitting suggestions which i was happy with - as i had been under the car with measuring tape trying to figure out how to make it fit.

Will be cutting out 10-12cm of pipe before the catalytic converter and moving the cat further forward towards the front of the car. Doing this will eliminate the wideband sensor port which i will never use anyway. Then just after the O2 sensor, making another cut and removing the final v band as well as about 10cm of pipe before and after this v band. This will allow enough room to fit the resonator in. Getting it all welded using stainless rod so it all looks uniform and getting it done on Monday.

Looking forward to a nice sounding exhaust once again. Will take pics of the finished product incase any other SPM dump pipe owners want to do a similar thing.

Need to get my "before" video's done this weekend by the looks of it.

Not sure how "pretty" it will look but hopefully wont look too bad. Both the resonator and the SPM dump are 304SS so that should make welding etc easier for the guy. Once the resonator gets a bit of heat in it and changes colour it will be less obvious that its been changed. The exhaust guy commented on the high quality of the resonator too.

Happy to get rid of that last v band as its not really needed to be honest and just serves as a possible future leak area. I'll be keeping the other v band (near the hangar) so, the dump pipe will just become a 2 piece unit instead of 3.
