FOR SALE: MKV GTI OEM TBE, Scirocco Rotors <10k kms and a New Autotech Pump
Yeh i hear you. Above 3,500rpm its good (between 12.5:1 - 11.8:1).
But below 3,500rpm its too lean and i'd like it richened up to safeguard the engine. Need to have a safety margin there incase you get a dodgy batch of fuel etc.
I'm really liking all the latest additions Lucas, including those personalised number plates. I'm keen to hear more about the coils and plugs once you test them for a few months.
Quality!
Car is looking great Lucas. Would really like to see this in person.
Thanks Robbie - i was getting an intermittent misfire with the stock coils/plugs (at idle and light throttle) and so far the new coils and plugs have fixed this. Not sure if this is purely because they are new, or if its because they are better? The stock coils and plugs had only done 13,000km in nearly 2yrs so they were still pretty new. I guess the engine mods push them harder than on a stock car.
The R8 coils have been tested to provide a stronger spark than the stock coils (5.5 ohms vs 3.0 ohms) and the plugs are 1x step colder.
I ummed and arred over getting personalised numberplates for a while - but i definetly wanted to get the black/silver plates to better match the car, so i thought i may as well get something written on the plates to match the car at the same time. So RVW 20T it was - all the other combinations i could come up with were taken unfortunately.
Ditto - i'd like to see your big turbo'd and nice new exhaust'd etc GTI. Part of me still wishes i'd gotten a GTI (which was what i had my heart set on for years).

Some pictures of the BSH Charge Pipe install:
Water/Meth bungs blocked off (for the time being) with the provided hardware. Air sensor removed from stock charge pipe and fitted to BSH pipe:
Picture of the charge pipe from on top - its a tight fit (about 5mm either side between the radiator fans and the little engine oil cooler):
Picture of the charge pipe from underneath:
Surgery complete and car back in one piece:
Verdict:
The car is feeling really strong at the moment, and was pulling like a car shouldn't be able to in the rain yesterday when i took it for a spin. The new coils and spark plugs have eliminated a intermittent mis-fire i was getting at idle and light throttle, the new tune from DNA has smoothed out the boost delivery (peak boost is 25-26PSI at about 3,400rpm, then it runs 22-23PSI from 4,000rpm - 6,000rpm before tapering back to 19PSI at redline). The new charge pipe sounds great too.

I love how the average bogan Falcadore owner hasn't got a clue what the car is nor what it's capable of.....makes it all the more enjoyable when one pulls up next to you at the traffic lights.
And i want to keep everything subtle incase of defects etc. Cops don't even give the car a 2nd glance which is great.
Yeh i agree - seeing cars in person always shows up way more detail than photos or video. If and when i head up Brisbane way again ill have to track you down, as well as Tarmac and Frazza etc.
