Hey Robbie, i didn't get to Auburn until about 1pm or so, so it was pretty quiet by then. Only 3 or 4 other people were there. A few others rocked up later but that was it.

How did you go with the R32? Another R32 turned up not long before i left and did 139.9kw

So after 300km on the freeway today i didn't get to do much testing on the new Superpro parts. So i went out for another bit of a drive recently and found some corners and am happy with the new and improved steering response and feedback. The stiffer bushing in the ALK bracket certainly gives a lot more immediate reaction to steering input. Will do some more testing over the next week or so, but so far so good. No difference to noise or vibrations etc either at this stage.

Honeycomb MAF is doing well so far, and doesn't seem to have any negative effect on the cars operation at all at this stage. Will check fuel trims soon to see whether they have changed at all, and will also do some VCDS checks on the g/s being registered by the MAF. Will also have to check that the honeycomb hasn't moved/shifted too.

Took the car down to the BMR dyno day today and it made 211kw on their Dyno Dynamics dyno. When i had the car dyno'd earlier this year here in Newcastle it made 208kw on a Mainline machine - so it's pretty similar on both machines.

lca's are looking sweet mate, i did consider them for the s3 but read they already come with the alloy ones from the factory. don't know if this is true or not? the adjustable ball joints are a neat addition and would recommend them.

what's the deal with the honeycomb maf thingy? i might be interested depending on the size on my car and any noticeable benefits?

nice work on the dyno, i'd be happy if mine is putting out over 200. i'll have to get mine on the rollers and find out...

Yes your S3 already has aluminium lower control arms, so basically no advantage to you to update them except for possibly the poly front bushing and some bling. Otherwise, you already have the benefits. One of several cost saving elements applied to the Golf R vs the S3 is various suspension and hub parts being steel instead of alloy - so the Superpro LCA's are really more so aimed towards VW's and Skoda's.

Looking at the pics in your thread when you are changing brake pads, you can see your LCA's are alloy.

The honeycomb MAF screen is a bit of an experiment to see if it improves the quantity/quality of air the MAF registers by straightening the air. Without the screen, the air would be swirling and all over the shop. With the air straightened, the MAF will get a clear and consistent flow of air to register. The stock intake uses a screen, but none of the aftermarket intakes i have seen use them (except apparently the intake used in the stage 3 APR kit which apparently uses a screen). Im just going to leave it in for a few weeks and do some testing on it.

There was an S3 at the dyno day on the weekend (stage 2 with Evolve Technik, VWR intake and Milltek TBE) and it made 190kw, which was a little low. A stage 2 Golf R (Bluefin stage 2, Milltek turbo back and stock intake with panel filter) made 200kw. So you should be 200+kw by now.

A bit to shy to put the R32 up on the dyno to see what she makes. Once again, that's an impressive result for your MKVI R Lucas. You must have missed the UG MKVI R Manual with the IPE innotech valvetronic exhaust system, tune, CAI etc that made 206kW in the early morning.

Do you plan on a bigger turbo kit?

I missed the other UG Golf R but saw a photo of it on the BMR/Viezu facebook page. It looked nice.

Shame you didn't put the R32 on the dyno, always nice to see how much power it has (regardless of whether its stock or not) and its always nice to HEAR an R32 getting a bit of a rev

Im on the fence at the moment about whether i will go down the upgraded turbo path. I've been researching some of the K04 hybrids that are available, as the OEM type fitment is more my style - but still unsure if they are offer real value for money in terms of power gains vs cost. With a K04 hybrid, at least i know i could do the work myself and retain my existing dump pipe and intake (which i am currently happy with and do not want to change).

The other option is the replacement Garret GTX28 turbo kit currently in final stages of ready-ness by Tarmac Engineering. Its about $7k, so a lot more expensive (about twice the price of the K04 hybrid) but will definitely give a decent boost in power. Downsides to this kit for me are the fact that:
    - i need to drop DNA tuning as my tuner which is essentially throwing money in the bin
    - i need to get a different intake and dump pipe (real bummer because i like my current setup)
    - turbo water and oil and charge pipes are all aftermarket/custom, meaning the car will be much easier to spot as being extensively modified if you get defected etc. If the kit needs to be removed, then thats a big hassle.
    - not sure if i could do the turbo install myself. Probably could, but the hybrid K04 would no doubt be easier.

Here are some sound clips of the SPM downpipe on my car. The first clip is the how it sounds normally (cold start), and the second clip shows the sound after having a resonator installed.

    BEFORE:

    AFTER RESONATOR:

Video added of the SPM down pipe with custom resonator. It's a cold start video with only small revs due to the cold engine. I've got a few other videos with WOT sounds that ill get loaded up soon.

And a couple of WOT runs on the dyno from a few weeks ago.

Nice work Lucas, big difference with the RES on it, are you happy with the sound now or does it still need a few tweeks

No more tweaks or changing down pipes im pleased to say

After 18 months or so of not being happy with 2 other down pipes in one way or another (either sound or fitment), finally this modified SPM unit fits well, is nice quality, and now finally sounds good (IMO) too. Very happy with both the down pipe AND intake setup now, and can move on to something else to fiddle with now.....like water injection and a turbo.
