Nice work fellas, moving fast, keen to see this finished and hope it will restore my enthusiasm to get mine sorted.
Meeting the missus in town for lunch tomorrow lito so will call in and see if you are around,
And keep the updates coming!
Done a bit this afternoon after tea.
Rods built up
First one in after also checking ring gaps
And the rest
Rods bolts torqued up the required 3 times to 50lbft
The sump is now on. It's a spare as the drain plug was stripped in Lito's.
Tomorrow morning I'll be doing the belt and water pump, as well as dropping the head back on.

Also just remembered about this, appears you have bigger fish to fry at the moment but if you still want to do it I can give you hand. Reckon we could have it done in about a an hour

You take out one of the circlips holding in the wrist/gudgeon pin. Then you can push the pin out from the other side. Lube up the little end of the new rod and push the pin back through. Reinstall the circlip. Easy.
Watch where you put the notches for the big end bearings, they need to be on the inlet side of the piston.
I checked the end gaps on all the rings for all the pistons, before fitting them on the rods and installing them in the block.
You should check the big end clearances too with plastigauge but as we were using standard sized bearings and there's hundreds of these rod in existence, I didn't bother doing this.
There's a good 1.8T rod install on youtube in 5 parts.
Hunt down my number and call me if you like. Anytime in business hours is ok.

Awesome progress Lito and Gavin. The new rods are H.U.G.E compared to the stock ones. Im sure these will be up to the task of supporting a good dose of boost from the new turbo.
just a quick update from last night. turbo is bolted down and oil and coolant lines are being routed. intercooler piping will go back on with some modification as will the dump pipe
had to fettle with some heater hoses to get the tip to fit but all good now. all i can say is that it's snug in there but should look like it was meant to be there once it's all back together. here's a few pics...
Gavin linked me to this thread.
Good to see more 1.8T 20V going BT.
I might have seen your car around Beaudesert Road near Algester. You live anywhere near? I'm close to Richard(guile).
