How much does this plasti spray on stuff cost to cover all 4 wheels? Is it durable against stones, how long does it last?

Plasti dip is truly awesome... comes in different colours as well!!!!

for a set of wheels i worked on basically a can per wheel but bought 1 extra to be safe... only prep needed is cleaning and degreaser and then paint away.. if you really lazy, you dont even have to mask the tires as it peels off LOL...

i have had it on for about 4 months and there is only a slight nick in one which was done by the dealership but didnt scratch the alloy (it would have if they werent coated!!).. only bad thing is the wheel go sort of a brownish black when lots of brake dust in on them so basically car need to be cleaned.. so yes not chips or anything to be worried about and that also applies to the front badge.. no chips at all and when you see my bonnet, its cover in stone chips.. very depressing..

you can buy it from TJM 4wd stores.. its quite hard to get sometimes but they will order it for you... i think it was about $30 a can or something... very cheap and reversable...

well now you all know my secret so i better now get some rims because everyone will have black wheels and badges LOL...

Sounds good, how long ago did you apply it to your wheels? Has any of it come off?

Is washing the same, or can't you use chemicals or harsh brushes on it?

    Cheers.

    Is this the stuff? http://www.plastidip.net.au/index.ph...875515625-6910

It says: PLASTI DIP® is flexible and won’t crack, chip, peel or become brittle, insulates from electric shock, vibration and heat.

Unless you forcefully peel it off?

thats the stuff... good for tool handles as well... its doesnt crack or anything.. it will peel if you tease an edge and pull on it.. thats how you get it off...

    Auscare..

i dont use chemicals on my wheels but i advise dont use it on this... a car cleaner did chemical on one wheel once and left like a bleach mark but came out with another waste... i have always sponge washed my wheels and would never use a brush... in the case of plasti dip, use a sponge...

at first it may grip things like MF clothes but just use your finger to get the fluff off that has stuck to it... after a couple of washes, it wont grip..

Cheers for that explaination, do you think it would cover some scratches on the face of the wheels? I'm asking as my car has it's original wheels and the previous owner must have parked by brail or something and CBF'd taking them to get repaired as they are my only wheels. I also wanted to go black on them but was unsure if it'd get boring but this is a great solution.

Cheers mate, I'll give you a yell when I'm closer to doing it all. I just have to have some spare time in which I don't need the car to drive anywhere and to get another two jackstands then I'll be right.

    Sorry to hijack your thread.

Thats a mean looking MkV!!! love it!

Ive always thought that the beige leather doesnt work in the GTI's though. Too many other dark parts...to me beige only works when the whole interior is finished in it.
