No real suprise, but the knee jerk will be a worry, no doubt starting in California.....
Interesting the VW is indeed the biggest auto producer of diesels.

It's not like nobody knows this anyway!!
Haha, when I was commanding armoured vehicles in the army we were told that Crew Commanders were exposed to 80 times more than the recommended daily exposure to diesel particulates.
"If can't get behind your troops, feel free to stand in front of them..."
We knew that 30 years ago. Thanks WHO for reminding us.

Yet another no real journalism here story.... why call the article "Diesel causes cancer" and then write:
Which is not the same thing. This in part led the WHO to conclude there was “sufficient evidence” to conclude that diesel emissions could lead to cancer.
Ahh well, its just the same as deep fried foods, cigarettes and a thousand other things we all choose (as a civilization) to embrace every day....

I love that the article was something Lexus wanted to promote, but then Toyota has a variety of Diesel options for 4x4...
Cant have it both ways, I think they also said that the Toyota Diesel's didn't use DPF's... So really its a totally different game from the emmissions that a VAG Diesel is making.
Not a big deal really. The study is nothing to do with modern diesels outdoors it is related to miners and others breathing in high levels of particulates from non filtered engines underground. Trouble is VW has now been dragged into this to defend itself.
lexus and toyota want people to buy there hybrid cars instead, but what they don't want people to know is that the batteries that go into one of these hybrids have more embodied energy(as a result of being transported across the world for different stages of production) than driving a 4WD for its lifetime.
and like Passat B6 said, the study used old diesels and people that would be exposed to hugely higher volumes of these fumes then the average person.
I'm not saying that they aren't bad for people(diesel fumes), but the study has some flaws, and these days what in the world doesn't cause cancer or can't kill you?

The whole Hybrid thing is still a running joke in the automotive industry. Right back to when Hyundai showed Toyota's Prius up, in an economy run with a Getz spec'd with a 3 cylinder turbo diesel. The car cost half as much, too. There's also ongoing speculation as to whether the whole manufacturing and disposal practice of the batteries is enviromentally friendly.
