And in the polo the button just needs to be pressed down into the tank, like a tiny cylindrical lever- it doesnt take much pressure to push it.

You wont go through many gloves either- i now just withdraw the fuel nozzle and gently press the vent button with the tip of the nozzle. Bonza!,
Too easy! Hopefully it's the same on the Golf.

    Nope, no luck.
I've had a good look around the fuel intake pipe and even had my mechanic pull the cover off (as per the original pictures earlier on in this thread) but still nothing.
I'm now fairly certain the golf (at least the mk v) doesn't have the venting facility.

I thought I saw a thread even a MkV petrol golf has a vent button. http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/4650.aspx If it's there, the button is down the filler tube. Mechanism is outside the filler tube.

Maybe they deleted it for newer models??

Rather than throw the vent parts out, I put the vent base through a few coils of spring so it doesn't seal but I don't have to keep the spare parts anywhere special.
    Hey Bluey,
Yeah, you've got the same photos as above, I think they're only relevent to the MKIV or earlier.
It's very hard to feel around the inside of the filler tube because of the 3 "knuckles" across the top. I'm sure if there was a vent button it'd be closer to the edge or even just outside.
I'd love for it to be proven otherwise!

So if you have the restricted diesel filler that only takes a skinny nozzle, the vent is apparently permanently open. Presumably the basic tank is the same as models with vent button. The question is does your tank hold more than the previous model or can you get more in by filling slowly and permitting venting to happen???

I've seen a thread where people make a small adapter out of plastic or copper and store inside the fuel filler flap for when the big rig diesel nozzle won't fit in. It mentions the lack of vent button.

This post has a pic of the filler like yours?
