What flywheels will fit the TDI?

Had some clutch slip last night, so now on the hunt to get a single mass flywheel and a stage 2 clutch for sooty.

    Will a VR6 flywheel fit?

If not, what single mass OEM flywheel will?

I will be fitting a heavier duty clutch in anticipation of further mods, and will be lightening the flywheel aswell

    cheers!

6 Cylinder flywheel has more boltholes. Any 4 cylinder TDI flywheel is the GO.

You need a Mk3 TDI late one really.

I have a few if you cant get one nearer. Also use a Vr6 clutch or uprated version of, for a diesel.

the book lists the TDI's as running the normal (but dieselized) version ofthe 02A, which is i guess 228mm. I think i had one somewhere from mollin's TDI engine, but it might be nice to keep it incase i ever go to 02a in the mk3.

Turbo Diesels like a heavier flywheel than a petrol car young skywalker.

the diesel idle dynamic torque curve (turque output against crank position) is much rougher than a petrol car's - because there is higher compression, and unthrottled gas intake (hence more for the piston to work against, and more force on the power stroke.) THis makes the idle less smooth, and using a heaver rotating mass is one way to dampen this characteristic. if you can imagine the extreme case, the flywheel is super heavy, so that the engine can only just tick it over - in this case ithe flywheel would have so much inertia that the effect of crankshaft torque would be minimal.

old statioonary engines are another good example - sometimes they only fire once every few revolutions - hence making an enormous flywheel necessary to deliver smooth torque.
