    US recall of 2009-2012 Diesels

Recall Alert: 2009-12 Volkswagen Jetta, 2010-12 Volkswagen Golf, 2010-12 Audi A3 - KickingTires

"Volkswagen is recalling 168,275 cars because they could leak fuel, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

The recall affects 2.0-liter diesel models of the 2009-12 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta SportWagen, 2010-12 Volkswagen Golf and 2010-12 Audi A3. In certain vehicles, resonance from the fuel injection pulses could cause the fuel line to crack and leak, possibly causing a fire if an ignition source is present.

...Volkswagen will install an improved fuel injector line and put in vibration dampers on all the injector lines. The repairs will be free."

Any reports in Australia of this issue?

On German TV news they mentioned a figure of over 300,000 cars. This is probably a figure for total around the world.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

This is very interesting as our 2011 Golf Wagon has had since new, a high frequency noise that is intermittent - like a heat shield vibrating but it is not that. It is not there all the time, but this sounds like the type of thing that could easily cause the noise.

VW have dismissed it as normal - I know it is not, as the demo cars did not do it nor have other owners cars I have been in.

VW Australia spokesman Karl Gehling yesterday told The Australian the local subsidiary had "only just been notified" of the recall of VW's Golf, Passat, Jetta, Tiguan and other models, along with the company's Audi, Skoda and Seat brands.

I have just been googling after seeing this thread - seems old news now for the rest of the world.

Why have we not been told here in Aus - I'm sure our TDI engines were not specially built for Aus conditions and therefore unaffected....

Early birds read... i knew about it last year from different forums as it started being circulated.

But of all people my mother emailed me this evening... Did you hear about the Jetta Recall! LOL
She probably heard it on the News or ACA/TT.

I just hope VAG don't give us the bandaid treatment (dampeners) but actually give us a redesigned pipe/fuel line.

Out Jettas are like the yanks ... built in Mexico. so no not built for australian conditions... so problems would be world over.

I wonder if while they are in there they will retrofit a better HPFP???

No suprise about VAG Australia's head in the sand - look at the MKV 125kw injector issue - still "news" to some dealers here....and certainly not recognised officially!
