"Unclogging" DPF

should have stuck with that - older cars are so nice.

lately, i think my favorite car i've ever owned is actually my girlfriends mk1 cabriolet (complete with old mk1 1.5l n/a diesel). it has "modern" reliable electrics (1991) without complications, no computers, and a simple tough little engine that gets you from a-b with no fuss at all, and i get 750+km from a tank.

AND, you can put the roof down. i swear its the best car ever.

Firstly, on topic, I filled up with BP at the weekend, so we'll see if it makes a difference. And both of us have modified our driving a little, so it won't be a double blind test. But we'll see.

Now, off topic....

Someone in another thread (maybe yourself? ) made some suggestions about the Ocatvia manual and its "instructions" on how to drive with the DPF. The '57's manual had instructions on how to drive - not how to drive the '57, how to drive a car! 36hp engine, crossply tyres - very interesting to develop ones driving skills.

As for going forever, when we stripped the engine down after I cracked the crankshaft (!), we found that the cam lobes were worn almost circular - yet the thing had been happily cruising at 100kmh (well, once you made it there). And the 6v electrics only failed me once, although a couple of candles would provided more light than the headlights.

My '98 Golf IV (1.8 20V) was a comparative POS. And, of course ignoring the manual's "do not drive on unsealed roads", combined with the sports suspension, resulted in two cracked sumps....

According to some workshops in Czech republic it is possible to clean clogged up DPF with the degreaser (though I have to find out which one), just soak it overnight and wash it out with the high pressure cleaner until the water runs clean. It's maybe worth a shot before someone spend $$$ on a new DPF when the time comes.

off topic slightly, but PREVIOUS PUG 207 Hated anything that was not bp ulitmate- fuel filiters clogging and wierdly 'gumming up' with caltex- which almost everyone else bar bp and later shell had in seqld... bp ultimate was the best to go with....
Could say drive like you stole it... but we all know know they seem to be best from aprox 1.5k to 3k....
Luck has it that that t5 i bought has no particulate filter...
