    Turbo upgrade for TDI?

    what kind of turbo upgrade can I look at for my Polo TDI.

    the tiny turbo is holding back performance now as it tapers off long before the redline even with a chip in it.

    i can get ahold of a KO3s and thought it would be a nice upgrade.

    thoughts?

    It goes pretty good as is. It's your daily driver.. Leave it alone!

    Can't argue with that.

    Why pull it off the road & have your daily sit around for umpteen week's while you fab up turbo gear?

    Leave it & enjoy it.

    I don't know how anyone could say "it goes pretty good." The Polo 1.9 TDI (the lightest and fastest 1.9 TDI equipped car on sale in Australia), even with a chip, is hopelessly slow.

    Go for the turbo upgrade. Along with head work, camshaft, valvetrain etc.

    I reckon the TDIs have different turbos to the petrol motors. They run much higher boost than a petrol, so I am sure they'd never keep up with the demands of a diesel engine.

    You'd need a turbo off a more powerful diesel motor.

    Well that's true if the road you drive to work and back on has no speed limits with minimal traffic. My chipped Caddy goes plenty good enough, good enough to keep up with a mid 90's V6 commodore. The Polo TDI goes better than my Caddy.

    If you think that isn't fast enough for something that you use every day as a run around to get to work and do the shopping, you have a very warped imagination.

    the turbo on my TDI is much smaller than a KO3s i recon, the turbo on these things is TINY !

    Maybe the GT TDI turbo is bigger and from what i've heard bolts straight on?

    i wouldnt say its hopelessly slow, its a gutsy little bugger and I thoughroughly enjoy driving it

    It's not just about the size!!??!! The some of the ones on the TDIs have variable vane technology to make them even more flexible.

    Have a look and see what boost diesels run. I think you'll find it's nearly double that of a petrol turbo. I did some datalogging on a TDI Audi a few years back and I though the wastegate was welded up.....
