BWAHHAHAHAHA. I feel your pain, doc! You'd think that with all their torque, you wouldn't need an auto for a diesel but my wife is the same

At least the 6 speed DSG itself is strong, unlike the 7 speed dry clutch unit being recalled around the world (excluding Australia)

Those white stains aren't from diesel Greg.

I really appreciate the input from all of you.

Well I bit the bullet today and ended up buying a late 2006 with 98000 on the clock. It has a service history in the books and realize it will need a cam belt soon.....but it was too good a deal to pass up. It's in excellent condition and I couldn't fault it. I did notice that the diesel is different on takeoff but wasn't too bad. I won't be driving it much anyway.

I generally do my own services but can't follow the VW oil specs of 502/504 etc. What specs and viscosity do I use for this car. I won't be collecting it until about Wednesday (so I don't have any info) but always change all the fluids and filters when I buy a car. That way I know it's all good.

    cheers...doc

I certainly hope not. I haven't had a good look at them but all the invoices are in with the service books. It's been serviced by VW all it's life. The engine prefix is BKD. I was led to believe that it was more than likely BKP or BMR. How do I tell?
    Here's hoping.

    cheers.
PS. I found the info about the oil.

Pretty certain it was only the 125Kw engined TDi's that are fitted with the Siemens injectors so that would include the GT and the Passats, not Jetta's. They were fitted with the 104kw TDi engine and have Bosch injectors that are not part of the recall. You can always ring the VW dealer, quote your VIN number and see if its eligible for the campaign.

Only the 125kw MKV diesels were affected. Jetta is fine. Run it on good name brand diesel, put the odd bottle of Fuel Doctor from supercheap through it, and it will be quite trouble free. Castrol has a VW specific oil that is 504, and if you look at most bottles at say supercheap, they will list "meets or exceeds VW 504" etc. Pick a brand and stick with it. I run Penrite Enviro, but have to look for a higher grade due to my DPF ( that you donlt have! )

Also get your oil filters from VW direct, half the cost of the Ryco at Supercheap! Oh and you will need a 32mm socket to pull the oil cap off from the front of the engine from the TOP. It's not a spin on, nor accessed from the bottom - that's an oil cooler down there!

Yep that's sweat, goes with the faint diesel smell, to differentiate me from sensitive new age men.

I wouldn't be so sure the 103kw TDI passats from 06 are affected by the recall, mine has the sticker as a check as my injectors had been previously replaced under extended warranty. My understanding is that it covers the 103kw and 125kw PD engines.
