    Thanks for the further information.

Just one more query though; you said that the UK car has less power than us; there website quotes 90PS which roughly equates to 66KW which we are quoted, is there something else I am not aware of that we get?

I read on the SA site that the UK one comes in at 63KW - but cannot see it for myself on the UK VW site. Which incidentally certainly is selling the diesel. When i spoke with my dealer he said a town drive of circa 15km per day would see the soot build up, but as long as a weekend run which saw the car into the warmed up zone, and included some hills/work-out would be fine. They must know the soot build up is an issue cause he also said any dealer would clean the filter out FOC for a couple of turns.

There are a lot of changes on the UK website; must be a bit going on in VW over there; they also removed some of the brochures.

Thanks for the further information, I will just make sure I take the car for a regular run on weekends somewhere a bit windy where it needs to rev a little more. I found some further info on some of the other forums confirming that there had been an ECU upgrade released which has solved the problem for a lot of people.

That only involves them sending one of their staff out to drive the car continully at 4000rpm for about 20 minutes so you can easily do it yourself.

Can you post some links? I'd love to know the details of what's been done.

I really don't want to sound rude, but why must we buy such new cars?
Wait a few years for all the issues to be discovered and/or fixed or buy an already proven car.
Making little engines make so much power/torque and use no fuel.....

just imagine everybody would wait a few years. Where would manufacturers store all these cars, before we buy them.

    DPF
for the benefit of us all, can everyone just try to ignore the generally harmless soot in future? DPF's are becoming a classic example of public opinion causing ridiculous engineering solutions to fit a problem that has hardly any real negative consequences. (ESPECIALLY when you consider how fuel efficient the engine could be without the darned DPF)
    I do agree, mate..

I'm glad my Caddy is pre-DPF for sure.. What a wank fest..

Let the generic masses, who only buy a car on price, purchase them.
Let them own the car for a few years experiencing any problems, whilst manufacturers find solution.
When they sell in 3-5 years time to upgrade to a 'better/newer' car, any car enthusiasts can chime in and buy then.
