    Which doesn't surprise me. The oil over/under fill is more common than the fuel metering problems.

    Nothing wrong with that, when done properly.
    Just remember to dispose the waste oil responsibly, since our planet is already polluted enough, and one drop of oil will pollute thousands of litres of water.

    All my waste oil goes to recycling, as does everything in our household that can be. Even as a moto mechanic in Perth 35 years ago we saved drain oil for recycling. No doubt some very shonky chisellers use our drains and waterways for this - like our nature strips for unwanted TV's, beds, computers, crap ... it really sh#ts me.Don't want it any more? Dump it.

    Do the oil recyclers still pay for waste oil? They used to back in the '80s. We used to get 8c/L IIRC.

    In the past our council accepted it no charge. Now they have hand balled it to a recycler who charges so much a litre, can't remember how much. Some auto parts stores used to accept it but that appears to have stopped. The EPA says that if you go to some place on a certain day of the month between the hours of such & such [4 hours] you can dispose it free. That's about 60ks for a round trip so they aren't trying to make it easy to do the right thing. Our local can & bottle recycler used to accept oil. They had a large tank but someone from the EPA or council came along & told them that they had to construct this special bay that would have cost thousands. They were only accepting the oil as a service so they decided no more oil.
    Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

    It was said some time back that the engine would not rev past 3000.
    With a 'double' fill of the sump I'm amazed that there was no mention of the crank contact with the sump oil.
    Surely it would have been, and wouldn't that have limited revs and resulted in sig oil leaks as well?

    I'm just as surprised as you. You'd imagine foaming and splashing and oil thrashing around in there like crazy. But as I said in the original post, the engine has never missed a beat or felt in any way laboured. I would say it probably revved cleaner at higher RPMs after filling with correct quantity of oil, but I had the car up to 195kph on the dial while that double fill was in there! Mind you, that's not excessive revs in 6th gear - and I've never had any desire to rev it beyond workable torque and power anyway ... which is why I love it - it's a diesel!
