stock boost levels for 1.9 TDI ?

    Hi all.

can someone please tell me what the factory boost level is for the 1.9 PD TDI mk5 Golf ?

i read somewhere that it's 2.1 bar ? that sounds a little high to me.
that's 30.87 psi. that sounds like lots for a stocker.....(my first experience with a diesel, so i have no idea what's normal)

im about to buy a boost gauge, and wanna make sure i get one that has the correct range.
i plan to have the ecu flash tuned at a later date too, so some leeway will be needed, as i don't want to be replacing the gauge in the future.

can anyone shed some light ?

    Thanks Transporter.

    2.1bar! That's impressive.
I'll head out on the weekend and pick up a 35psi gauge.

Hopefully that's enough to cover any changes that are made
once I eventually get round to the re flash.

Just for the record, if you run the sender from the inlet manifold, to get true pressure rather than straight out of the turbo for a feel good reading, my stock GT TDI runs 23-24psi maxed. Looks a bit silly on my 0-60psi gauge....for now.

i plan to tap the pipe after the intercooler, and before the inlet.
so this should take into any pressure drop across the cooler.

    Boost

    Hi,
2.1 bar is absolute pressure which is atmospheric air pressure + pressure generated by turbo.
Atmospheric is around 1.0 bar depending on height over sea level.
    Hope this helps?

so what your saving is that i will only see 16.17psi on the gauge (ie:1.1 bar) ?

1 bar is roughly equal to 14.7 psi, or like you say one atmosphere.

This is starting to get confusing..... lol
