take it back to the dealer... thats all the advise i can offer really - vag-com will turn up any errors in the ecu
Hey guys, new to the forum (well sorta, was back here way back when i was going to get a Polo TDi so i know how helpful you are)
Came back because my Mum has a 2006 Mk5 Jetta TDi (DSG) and just recently it has started to have some issues. It has just had it's 45,000km service at the vdub dealership, and now the DSG seems terrible initially. When taking off reasonably quickly (not flat stick) 1st gear is extremely sluggish, then short shifts to second where it boosts like crazy and actually starts moving with a bit of gusto.
It's also feeling a bit clunky when she first takes her foot of the brake and onto the accel, like dropping the clutch in first.
So any help with that would be appreciated.
But the main problem seems to be the amount of smoke that now comes out. I know diesels smoke, i've got a 150+kw, 420nm Astra diesel and i love leaving people in a puff of smoke, but mum's jetta has progressively gotten worse, and it's now a very brown smoke. I just cleaned my EGR and it reduced my smoke a lot, could i do a similar thing to hers? Air filter is brand new so that shouldn't be a problem. Do we know anything else it could be? Had a bit of a read and search around but couldn't find anything.
Sorry for the epic long post, and i look forward to hearing your answers.
Thanks guys and girls!
Ain

Brown smoke is VERY weird. Absolutely no idea, a diesel should be anything but brown!
As for the DSG, perhaps it had a reset on the recent service and has to "relearn" your mum's driving patterns, and it may improve over several days.
If not another trip to the dealer is in order, or at least a visit to someone nearby with Vag Com to check for error codes. I'd also suggest asking around, as there are good and bad workshops out there, and I'd be getting some recommendations.

Try a few more searches in this forum.
Checkout EGR thread as its a good one ,and would be interested to hear your experience
with how much oil you found while cleaning your EGR.
What servo is your mum using, check out the threads on BP diesel as a few
members were advised by VW to use it to lower the smoke output.
DSG same thoughts as cogdoc
Thanks
Luckily mum already uses BP diesel due to the low sulfur content (same as me) so that shouldn't be a problem. Also smoke was reduced after a dose of Nulon diesel injector cleaner. I'll have a quick look for that EGR thread...should be a simple job to clean like it was on mine
