    Poor Diesel ?

Here is a pic of another EGR ive pulled from a Golf 5, Been serviced from day 1 with low ash oil and used BP diesel most of the time. Engine has only done 80k, the condition of this i expected it to have done 300 odd. Can only put it down to crap diesel. Car does lots of highway stuff too so cant blame round town and prolonged idle. What do you reckon? im keen to hear the feedback, personally i think its pretty poor and cant put it down to design as VW have been at the forefront of green diesel since i started back in 88. Be great to hear what you think. Days are gone for reasonable quotes these days, im findiing im quoting telephone number quotes these days.
    Have a look

    Speak to Seb about this
Every week he will get at least 1 intake manifold removal and clean on a tdi/fsi/tfsi engine. Its now become a maintenance item!

this is not a new issue, every tdi since EGR was invented has been doing this all by itself. Theres also been heaps of discussion on here about it in the past.

The best solution is to try and remove as much oil vapour from the crank case vent gasses as possible - as mikinoz suggested - a pro-vent is a good solution. Then the exhaust soot cant form the sludge with the oil.

It really doenst matter what the fuel quality is like - all diesels (and it seems now the direct injection petrols) make a lot of soot during hard acceleration) and this is the result.

I was behind a golf R the other day going on to the hume at cambelltown, and WOW was there a lot of soot when the driver floored it once out of the corner (they were obviously a little annoyed my skoda was gaining in the corner .

The amount of soot i saw from that R is more than I see from a regular TDI doing the same thing.

Mine was about half that at 110,000kms. Never had a provent.

Looks quite globular whereas most I see is an even layer. But yes, very typical, although they do seem to vary a fair bit between cars as Benough suggests above, but yes, get them onto a Provent!

All good feedback and not sure if you know my background, ive been with VW/Audi since late 1987 and seen most Umwelt, PD, Common rail in these and dont remember them being as bad as this with such low ks, unless i was lucky or unlucky not to have to diagnose any, which i find hard to beleive when the Uk is way more populated with Dubs and thats where i did my training. My bad for not reading or doing a search on the subject on here. Being at the coal face i saw this and instead of what most dealer techs do and just fit a new one i was looking for a solution to a "well known" problem and thought i would post up a pic. That all said i do really appreciate all the feedback cheers guys.
I did " Fix" a V6 Touareg last week with an EGR valve stuck and what would normally be replaced, the guy couldnt wait for the back ordered part, so went through the pain of removing it, not a 2 minute job on a Treg, and used Subaru cleaner for ages on it and it unstuck, luckily the Elec side of the valve seemed to cope with trying to work against the coal and manged to keep it alive. All good.
I personally still think the diesel over here is crud as is the Petrol whether it contibutes or not, im sure it does but thats "my " opinion. But anyway as i say i really appreciate the feedback

    Cheers again
