Hey Buller-Scott,
The VW Service Manual that comes with your car only talks about a 1500km 'running-in' and after that go for it.
I'll scan it and put it up here....

anytime
and logzy, sorry about my late reply in the other thread- but do you deal in the chipped st3 remap thingy for the polo tdi? i might be interested in it.
and also, when people say "running it in", how many kilometers are you supposed to do the whole "rev to 2500rpm whilst cold, once warm rev to 4000rpm, use the whole rev range every now and then etc etc" until?
i just wonder as i've driven my car like this (as per instructions on this forum) and its now at 15k. should i keep this up until say, 30k?
hmmmmmm. so much to ponder.......

Unless, like me, you subscribe to the "go for it" run in method!

As do I! The first 1000K was from Adelaide to Coober Pedy anyway so not really much of an opportunity to do anything (SA cops!!)
However the next 2000K saw it get a great workout!!

thanks for that!
i figure it doesnt hurt to give the car a work out, even now. besides, its fun
When I picked up my TDI GT SPORT the salesman told me that although you should still take it steady for the first 1000 k's or so, you should still give it a bit of stick as well (short bursts) otherwise you will end up with a gutless dog of an engine. He said that they were pretty much run in once they leave the factory as they get them up on a dyno and give them the running in procedure there. Then when they arrive at the country of destination they are then given an oil and filter change and service before either going out as a demo or as a new vehicle purchase to the buyer. This way it gives the engines a better chance of survival in the hands of VWWatercooled forum members.
