also because I have installed a new DPF shouldn't the dash lights turn off? or do we need to tell the car a new DPF has been installed?
hi all,
over the weekend I installed an aftermarket DPF filter on my 09 Jetta, we plugged the computer in and went for a drive to try and clear the codes off the dash when the old DPF was clogged it was reading 44.5g of soot now we have the new one in first test went 43.2g second:19.5g third:15.2g fourth: 9.8g fifth: 7.6g and then the sixth test went up to 12g and the seventh was 15.5g, now should a new filter take quiet a few KLM of driving to come down or should it be instant? and is it strange that it started to climb? has anyone had experience of new DPF filter that can give me some knowledge? cheers

You will need to re-adapt the DPF pressure sensor.
OK, you really need Vagcom to reset the DPF ash levels, the DPF pressure sensor like suggested above, and do any other DPF "adaptations" that are available. If you have a MK6 common rail version the options in Vag Com are far more limited, in MK5 version you have a lot more control. This is not as simple as plugging it in and hoping the car sorts it out.
Easiest way will be to go to a Euro specialist or VW themselves and have your DPF adapted properly.

Hi gaffatron,
I'm Steve from WA Euro - Mobile Mechanic Perth - European Specialist
First thing you need to do is check the engine oil level.
If it is high, it's a sign that the fuel pump is leaking diesel into the engine oil. this thins the oil and raises the oil level causing too much oil to be blown through and into the exhaust, blocking the DPF.
If this is the case, it'll need replacement of the fuel pump and an oil and filter change. Then it'll need a forced regeneration of the DPF to reset.
If you want a permanent solution to DPF issues, i can help with ECU upgrades etc.
