So long as you get onto the highway weekly, or basically don't just do short low speed inner city driving you will be fine. Diesels are meant to work, and some higher speed driving helps keep the sludge down. The MK6 has had a LOT of improvements over the MK5, different EGR flap mechanism for a start. You can always fit a Provent 200, it's not super difficult.
I'm a big fan of additives to the fuel, but only to protect the high pressure fuel pump and injectors. Fuel quality matters a lot in the MK6 common rail in my opinion. As these engines are direct injection, no additive to the fuel helps clear the intake.
