Hi all. Was wondering if some people on this forum may be able to help me out. I drive a MK5 golf TDI 2lt with BKD engine and a couple of weeks ago it has started to idle higher than usual. It now idles at around 980rpm when usually it was around 800. Does anyone know what might be wrong or point me in the right direction?
Regards
Simon

My understanding. This is a micro regeneration for the DPF filter (as advised by VW at a service).
Usally a dash warnig comes up for a major regen but you can also get minor regens.
Idles at about/under 1000 RPM and then will return to normal in a short time.

Have done 66000km?
The first step is to get it scanned with VCDS or similar. The fastest and usually the most economical way is to have a mechanic look at it. Jmac is your good option, he has a lot of experience. It's hard to diagnose the car over the internet.![]()

Just some extra information. The car still drives ok with no lack of power and still great fuel economy, it just idles high for some reason? Could it be the EGR dirty and sticking maybe?
Yep, pretty likely. My TDI idles high from time to time without doing a regen, but I have messed with the engine so much, it could be anything. It is never an issue, but I your case I would put it down to the EGR, causes a lot of weird problems, gums up flaps, have you ever spray cleaned it out with intake cleaner?
