    Mk III TDI

    finally located a MkIII TDI.
Its original everything, including an auto box.
Interested in an economical daily driver for the teen, nothing flash
Would have loved manual, not sure what else I would change, done 211,000 kays some blow-back, otherwise sound, all maintenance suggestions welcome.

Blow back is what you want in a diesel

And they say you can't find Hens Teeth!
Pretty lucky to get an Auto.

Once you get it take the Intake off and clean it out... as well as the charge piping and Intercooler...
Intake will be choked with muck and intercooler will have oil in it... It is not serious and ALL TDI's have this problem.
Cleaning them will Help breathability and reduce the soot out the back and up the performance back to original - You will ceiratinly need it with the Auto as it is slugish in a TDI.

Does it Have Criuse Control? - It you want it... all you need to add is the Steering Colum Stalk and hook up the wires... it's all Controlled via the ECU

    Thanks Gigitt,
And thanks for the tips, it certainly needs some performance happening.
I will also be guessing as to which pipes are which, but cleaning anything can only help...
Service records are good for all but the last 30,000, so not assuming.

And we feel lucky, as some in here will know, been looking for a good while
It does have a cruise control stalk.
I am not sure how to engage it, different from the MkV anyway.

I wasn't aware the auto was rare, would have preferred manual as it is sluggish, but that's what they had, so.
Will get some pics up. I think I have to revisit photobucket anyway

To find the trip counter, turn the ignition on, and press the button under the odometer, it switches between odo and trip, but only with ignition on. To engage cruise, turn the front switch situated about 3/4 in down the stalk to the left and then press the switch on the end of the stalk in at the desired speed!. Good luck, I would never call my Tdi sluggish, so either it's the auto sapping the power or mine's been flashed!

looks like you have a remote 2nd fuel filter fitted on the firewall left of the coolant expansion tank.
That is exactly where I fitted my Oil Air seperator Catch can.

I have only see a remote filter on one white auto TDI I test drove about 10 years ago out West of Sydney when it poped up for sale.

Here is an old shot of my engine bay:

dont be worried about oil in the intercooler - i once spent time flushing the piping and intercooler out, put it all together, took it for a drive, and the next day there was oil in the intercooler again, haha.

nice find! mk3 tdi is rad.
