I should not shoot my mouth so fast!
The auto guy says the gearbox is fine, no fault code. My bad.
Unless you are granny, it drives like crap though, hunting and no power at times like the accelerator is not connected.
His Maxidas scan tool threw up a fault code for the MAS sensor 'G70 short to battery".
He didn't know what that code meant.
Any help would be fantastic

You said previously there was ATF all over the place though? Surely there was a gearbox problem then?

Thanks gldgti, agreed. I'm just not a very good witness.
ATF is what I thought I saw. To be honest, I saw a lot of what looked like oil, under and on the bottom of the sump guard, oil so assumed the worst. It guess it must be engine oil, probably following a lot of country kays recently, so needs another look.
In any event, it turns out that the problem was simple enough. On inspection, the MAF plug was sitting loose in the socket, which makes sense of the 'short to battery' code. Plugged it back in and took it for a freeway run tonight and it was fine.
While I was at it, I cleaned the sensor with 2/3 of a can of CRC MAF cleaner. There was a bit of gunge in there including some tiny bits of twig on the inside end of it, so worth doing.
