To get back ON topic, I changed my gearbox oil, have a huge magnet on the drain bolt effectively magnetising it, and have added a tube of Nulon teflon gearbox additive for what it's worth. I can see how you could get more wear with the slam style shifts, but that's up to you...now it is an option, whereas before I didn't realise it was a slower, sloppier affair. It's still a long way from a straight cut racing style gearbox, as the cable ends still have the stock rubber around the bushing shaft, it's just the slop is now negated by the full rectangular faceplate in the plastic housing. There is still some slop on the ends, it's just a whole lot less. Adjusting the box becomes critical if shift bushings are done, and the cables allow very minute adjustments so you can tweak it just right - something that wasn't quite as important with the stock, more forgiving ends - so in reality it's possible to have less wear as they force you to set the gate pattern up just right. Took me a few attempts but now it's just so sweet!

Thats really the only point I was trying to make, for those readers who mightn't have realised.

This is certainly not aimed at you Greg, but I think shift mechanism type modifications or upgrades are typically over-represented for their usefullness, and seldom approached with the necessary know how to ensure the maximum working life of the gearbox. I know this from my own experience, so just want to make sure others might learn from my own mistakes.... eventually, a new, tighter fitting bush feels like a poor attempt at a patch over a much bigger problem.

Wow, is there any way to eliminate innuendo from this stuff?

Is the meth kit back in Greg?

I was checking out meth kits for my S15, and noticed snow perf sold diesel kits... Which led me to take a look at the skoda scout, saw it was 2.0 diesel (103pd i believe), manual and AWD, and thought I'd check in here to see what it could be turned up to with a bit of tinkering.

I saw you mention the turbo earlier - what are the other key differences between that engine and the one in the GT?

I'd be lying if i said your madness isn't making me consider a diesel.

Mate you won't believe it, but I've had the Snow kit for a year now, and it hasn't been run! It's fully installed except for the EGT probe, but it is ready to go via boost, but there's reasons I've been waiting. Warranty ( or what little i had ) was the main one, and it runs out at the end of the month. The TDI is now oficially 3 years old, and the first car I'm not going to trade in and upgrade on my allowance, I'll own it outright in about 18 months, which was always the plan.

I've been thinking that to run my Meth kit properly I need the custom intercooler plumbing finalised with the right fittings, the EGT probe in the actual manifold, and the EGR/throttle flap hobbled. This needs to be done electronically, and I'm hoping Parso will come to my rescue there! I've also been working on the new business since October, and as I now have spent several grand on 42DD stock, websites etc etc, well the play money and time has dried up. Also with the current potential 125kw injector failures, I'm keen to find some solutions there, as whilst no-one has been stung too bad as yet, it will start happening, and I want a plan B if my oiler carks it!!

Snow make great meth kits, and do have "diesel" versions, but they are aimed at the huge yankie SUV diesels and are supplied with jets and options WAY to big. I spent half a year corresponding with Snow to try and swap out my jets for VW sized ones, finally got a return number, afterwhich they changed their minds and left me with nothing, and kept my returned items! The one guy there that was assisting me quit, and contacted me privately as he felt bad for me, but basically told me Snow didn't give a rats about international customers, and I'd have to agree. Shame. Still I got a great jet and fitting from Devils Own, and I see nice Snow kits come up secondhand on e-bay a fair bit, and as all you really need is a stage 2 boost referenced one, well it's a lot of bang for the buck. Meth ain't cheap though, over $1 per litre!

I am indeed looking forward to hooking it up all the same!! I am close to doing a LOT all in one go, intercooler plumbing, EGR and flap delete, meth and my electronic gadgets, but it is all awaiting a way to remove the electronic bits, and now that there is no warranty reason stopping me, well it's getting close to tinker time again.

I have been doing a few things, and my totally plumbed Provent using the 42DD remote oil line has been working beautifully, the condensed and filtered oil from the Provent is returning to the sump via a one way PCV valve, so now it's a totally mess free install. I wouldn't suggest doing this with any other can, as the Provent internal filter removes just the oil, and any particulates wouldn't pass through the filter medium. Mann and Hummel also recommend it, see the Provent thread for details.

As for 103kw differences, please see the following thread bottom of page 1: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f15/...ort-54501.html

In a nutshell the 103 won't handle anything beyond 125 chipped, as it's flat out handling the thermal load in my very humble opinion. The CR versions have WAY more tuning potential though over PD ( theoretically ) just no-one has really done so as yet. They also show a lot more potential off boost.

Well Easter has given me a good opportunity to get back into the tinkering. I'm half way through, but hope to test run the full intercooler plumbing, with the QTP shut down flap, and no EGR valve or stock flap mechanism. They will still be hooked up for now, but hanging in the breeze doing their thing. I stopped the car mid regen, so it will be interesting to see how it handles the mods. Water meth will also finally be hooked up, and all I need is a drum of Meth and it's go for the inlet side. Hope it works!

    Nice work, dude.

Let me know if you have trouble getting methanol and I'll try and hook you up with a mate of mine up your way..

Hey Preeny, thanks mate, no problem with supply, just the flippin retail price! Need to find a bootlegger at a chookfarm! Even the 200L drums are over $200 up here, seems the biofuel boys have driven the price up. I'm patient, I'll do my research.....

More TDI goodness today....meth tank brackets made, and she's 100% hooked up now : ) QTP flap works a treat, but it takes a good 5 seconds to open or close, so it won't be much help with anti-shudder on shutdown, oh well. Is really only there as a run away precaution anyhow. Lunchtime over, back to it!
