Had a good day of driving with the new 42DD shift bushings, and WOW, it's a different gearbox, so much so that I can feel myself "dropping the clutch" in the now lightening fast 2-3 change. My foot isn't used to keeping up with that fast a change even in just normal driving, and I felt the clutch "drop" in 3rd as my foot caught up with the now much quicker change. Definately would make for a swifter bolt to 100k, and there's no nasty vibrations or anything unless you lean on the gearstick whilst in gear - then you KNOW it's linked directly to the gearbox. Best $60 odd I've ever spent, can't see how anyone wouldn't like this mod.

My son has VAG COM and everything is fine. As I said the remap seems to have cured the regen issue although it still runs a little bit rough if it decides to go into regen mode whilst in traffic, but at least now it doesn't die in the bum like it used to

    All sounds great Greg.

I have to say I've always been a bit skeptical of too tight a bush when it comes to shift linkages, as too tight a bush can lead to premature wear in the gearbox if everything is not adjusted "just so". If theres more room for slop, the likelyhood of pressure being applied to the shift forks whilst cruising is lessened.

You're probably right mate I think it would be unwise to make further comments on that particular subject. Don't want to encourage impure thoughts from any senior forum members either, the mere mention of 42DD and bush could be detrimental to their health

As long as you keep a firm grip on the shaft and keep it well lubricated this will help to reduce wear on the bush

It is not about the wearing in the bush or if you drive with your hand on the gear stick or not. gldgti meant wearing inside the gearbox. There is no filter to catch metal particles and 2L of oil that is there for a long/or lifetime, so in long run it is important, that there are minimum metal filings or wear debris.

But hey, maybe you have just the right clearance there and everything will be fine.

Nice to see that gldgti and Transporter have kept the thread on topic. In response to Greg's comment on not driving with his hand on the stick, I was just going to suggest that due to the tightness of your new bush it may be necessary in the future to keep your hand on the shaft due to the eventual wear that the bush will get from all the hard slamming. This depends on the whether he just puts up with the sloppiness around the shaft caused by the eventual wear in the bush or if he'd prefer to replace it with another tighter fitting bush. I believe it's not uncommon for some men to actually discard bushes (worn or not) and replace them with new tighter fitting imported ones. Each to his own I say
Now get your hand off the shaft for a while and get on with the serious tinkering already...............

Of course that a proper lubrication is important and I completely agree with you mate but hand off the stick while driving.

Thanks for reminding Transporter, I almost forgot that it is imperative he uses a good quality long life lubricant on the bush and the shaft to cut down on the friction and thereby help to reduce wear.
