Thanks guys, but it's not very exciting as yet, just a few extra holes and wires here and there. Next step is the water spray, then I'm into replacing the inlet plumbing, from the pod back. Now that am no longer thinking water intercooler this becomes a much simpler task.

I'm stuck with the stock MAF for now though, till I can get a custom tune for a 3" pipe. If I plug it into a larger inlet, more air will be flowing that it realises and it will be out.

Scan gauge looks flash polar, and a LOT more simple, but I can get these stock readings from VAG Com, and you're stuck to the standard sensor position. for instance there is no temp sensor between the turbo and the cooler, so you can't really test the intercooler directly. As much as a hassle as it is, I like to be able to put the probes exactly where they need to be. Oh yeah why the heck is your speedo in MPH polar, or are they pics from the net??

Next test will be the EGR addition!

Logged my EGT's up the same little twisty range today with Vag Com. Saw 821 deg max at 4200 ish RPM floored. That's a whopping 1500 deg F when my diesel tuning book recommends 1200-1300 F is "about the limit". WOAH! Much to investigate, and I haven't even tried a 4500rpm all out max effort! I'm assuming though, that this is the probe just above the DPF, which is AFTER the turbine. As far as I know there is no exhaust manifold sensor, and if this is the case the impeller wheel is seeing even higher temps. Problem with Vag Com is its a guess as to what you are actually measuring half the time.... my aftermarket EGT probe, to be welded in shortly will confirm.

Sits at about 150 at idle, almost 100 when coasting on a "closed throttle", so the diesel is indeed cool!

If someone can tell me how to link / paste up an excel graph, I made a nice plot of the run. Going to have much fun with Vag Com now I've learnt the logging function......and Gregoz and co can wet their panties with the data!

wow - you really need to get an egt probe into the manifold if possible.... i'm sure you'll see a significant difference. needless to say, i'm also sure your thing is hauling like a big rig. must be fun

OK I've started a data thread where I'll log all my Vag com data in coming weeks, and don't fret Aydan I now have an aftermarket EGT compression fitting for the probe ready to weld in. It won't be going in the cast irom log manifold though, much easier to weld in right after the turbine outlet.

Some things even I'm scared to drill holes in, plus my gauge tops out at 1800F...

Try "print screen", paste in paint, crop it, and save as a jpeg.

Looking forward to some interesting numbers.

    Great work.

Thanks Mike, I googled it last night, as I had no idea what Mikinoz was on about!

I just cant plug this device enough. With the setting on GTI blue it matches your dash lights perfectly too!
My laptop matches my chunky temp meter, which is nicely offset by my half finished dynamat stereo install. I must say my girlie is loving my tinkering, she's a HUGE fan right now.

Hey Greg and anyone else reading - do you think it's feasible to reroute the factory external temp sensor - the one that displays on the MFD - to indicate other things? I'm thinking intercooler temperature, in conjunction with a waterspray kit...
