You are right to be considering all the implications of having a lot more torque and power in a TDI.

There has been a fair bit of discussion about DMFs on the Octavia II sub-forum of Briskoda. IIRC the Sachs version sounds like it might be better than whatever brand VAG have been using on their 1.9 TDIs in particular (it seems like it is almost designed to fail after a certain amount of use).

The T5 sub-forum of the Brickyard also has a couple of recent tales of woe regarding DMFs and gearboxes.

One of the problems with replacing the DMF with a single mass flywheel is that all the power pulsations will then go straight to the gearbox and the rest of the drivetrain, which may be even worse over the long term (DMF's being usually cheaper than gearboxes).

Good to see you floating around mate.

No perfect solution for sure, but if you want a car to last forever, don't touch it. Not my style, but right now I'm too poor to dream too big, so it's all theory for now.

    That will change though!!!

That is also what I read on the Dieselpower forum.cz

    http://dieselpower.cz/forum/index.php

The 99% of people convert only when the car have done around 180k-200,000km's

Lots and lots of VAG cars in CZ.

    Hi,
Do you know Ricky at Dieselpower?
Lots of people in UK modify there diesels.
There is a 2.0 tdi engine code bkd having massive work including cryo treatment of the block / head, exhaust manifold porting, gt3067v turbo from a hino truck the list goes on. He is expecting 400 bhp and 700 lb ft torque.
Generally, VAG engine and transmissions are over engineered and will take 20-30% extra power without any trouble.

    Best wishes

The software isn't a problem. Like doing a Phase 2 on a petrol turbo. I am working on getting the downpipes here for reasonable money.

JBS/C-C sell it as a package and that's how I have to sell it too.

I am not in this game to make a killing out of the customers but the shipping on the pipes due to the length, is more than the pipes will cost me.

I am hoping to come up with an answer soon.

    Please be patient.

Thanks for the update Gav, very promptly too!

Can you consider going the Miltek way, and going a bit oversize??

Seems silly to put a stock bore back on if you're modding at that extent.

I was impressed to see the UK CC guys getting the stock DPF gutted and put back on, nice stealth mod that! The can would be a nice dump pipe volume too me thinks...hmmm...

I'll do my best to stop pestering you but the part where the Seat170 guy in the UK mentions roasting a Boxter has me all gooey in the fork though.

    Greg.
