    How similar is my TDI to the 2015 GTD overseas?

    so having read some over seas forums on the new GTD over there, it is a 2.0L TDI engine Sounds the same as mine.

    It's listed as 181bhp, which if I'm correct is 320nm of torque, which mine is I think.

    Only difference is 110 kW (mine) compared to 137kw, and of course I know the GTD is quicker to 100kms.

    Now, is the engine similar to the GTD overseas engine? Is the KW difference due to something else in the car?

    I'm a newbie to the car scene so please be nice

    Everyone ignore this I converted the wrong units whoops! 181bhp is 134kw

    Short answer is that it's not the same engine. The 130TDI in the Tiguan and Passat is closer but in the Mk7 The GTD has an extra 5kW.

    I believe it's been posted on here before what the differences are as there are a number of 2.0TDI variants available - 103/110/125/130/135.

    It's not just a tune between them all.

    Okay that makes sense! Didn't cross my mind that mine being the 110TDI as opposed to a higher KW is the engine directly!

    If you have a search for some of the self study guides / programs they might help you.

    I know on the original 125kw GT Golf that there were mechanical differences between it an the smaller output 2.0L diesel. Injector capacity & conrods spring to mind.

    The MK6 103 and the initial MK6 GTD were actually remarkably similar. I am heavily investigating it currently, but it looks like a turbo, clutch and tune, that's it. The latest GTD engine is a phenomenal leap forward, and is dramatically different, was water air inter cooling, giving very short intake plumbing, even uses the EGR to keep the turbo spooled between gear changes. How much of this is carried over to the lower power models in MK 7 is yet a mystery to me, but I expect your car is a MK 6 103 overall, with some tune updates and the newer double can NOX and DPF setup.

    A proper tune will put you a bit beyond GTD power, but a GTD tuned is obviously better again. You do need to worry about TD1 at the service department, that automatically flags a OBD flash tune, and alerts Germany. I don't believe anyone can get around it with the typical flash tune.

    And if I tune it and service at an independant euro specialist? As opposed to dealer? Still gets flagged? What are the repercussions? I assume warranty

    If you service at an independent then it won't get flagged. The only thing you have to worry about is getting the tune taken off if/when you have any warranty work carried out.

    It's only if they hook it up to their computer that it is ever an issue. Yes tuning has the potential to void your engine/drivetrain warranty.

    Taking the tune "off" doesn't avoid TD1 from what I understand, flash counter has to sync with Germany. The BMWs are starting to do this over the cloud, and flash themselves back to stock, as well as recording this!
