Well I've done it, finally got me a fine set of wheels
It's a 2006 (MY07) model Golf 2.0 TDI, 6 speed manual, still got a years worth of warranty and 12 months rego to boot.
Can't tell you how happy I am with it Still getting my head around the different way of driving a diesel but my first few runs up and down to Brisbane have yielded and average of 4.8l/100km, and am hoping to improve on that!
Just have to learn how to use everything, how's the users manual? Like "war and Peace"
Was gonna add a couple of photos but they're too big, how do I reduce their size to be able to upload onto the site?
    Cheers
    Dan

    Hey Gregozedobe,
Picked up on your statement that your T5 2.5 diesel has gear driven cams. I've been trying to ascertain whether my '05 T5 128kw diesel has cam belt or chain. Can't find reference to it in the service manual. Recently bought this T5 as a campervan and it has 130K, so really want to know. Had a beautiful Honda VFR800 motorcycle until recently and it used gear driven cams on it's race-bred 781cc v4 (110hp). Sounded like a sewing machine on the idle, but soon forgotten when the throttle was twisted
Hope to get clarification to put my mind at ease.

    Hi, Biggles
If you're sure about 128kW than you have R5 engine, have a look at the engine and if you don't see any accesories belt than it is R5 engine.

    Hello Biggles,

Yes, I'm quite sure the T5 R5 2.5l 5cyl engine is gear driven. It was one of the reasons I bought it (no possibility of a rubber belt breaking and wrecking the engine, plus reduced maintenance requirements and costs.

Of course they do have those tricky little flexible drives (special belts) for the alternator and air-con pumps, and these DO need replacement at regular intervals.

Also the R5 engines (like all VW TDIs) are very fussy about using the correct oil and changing it regularly.

If you do a bit of snooping on the brickyard forum (link below) you will find out a LOT more about T5s, including things to be wary of (eg replace the waterpump on early T5 R5s ASAP if it hasn't been done already).
