Maybe an alternative would be to peruse the web in UK and buy just the bar, and have the wiring done by the dealer. When I looked for the Golf there were plenty of alternatives. It's hard though so good luck
I have just started looking at options for towbars to put on my 6R Polo order [Which is hopefully arriving in a few weeks time].
The quote I got from VW was $1,600; which sounded crazy to me, so I have been searching for other options. But I am hearing that the canbus systems means that even alternatives are going to be expensive.
I am not sure what system they use on the Polos, whether it is the Euro style as discussed above; but that is what I was after.
If anyone comes up with anything for a Polo let me know!

Picked up GTD yesterday. It was a miserable wet day, making the 110km drive home through the hills slightly nerve racking.
New car is doing thing just like I thought it would. 125 CR engine is a pearler. Doesn't rip your pants off when you plant it like the 2.0 pd, just pulls strongly, far more refined, sort of like the silent asassin Ticking along in the street it is very respectable, unlike the 103 kw Comfortline, which did sound a little like a Land rover Defender. I need a 14 yr old kid to help me with the radio, the bluetooth and all the stuff on the info screen. I'm getting there, but now have a headache. The CSG GTD looks very classy and I cant help having a little look back when I walk away from it. Don't really know about the handling yet cos I haven't been "alone". So far----very pleased.
Yep GTD and MK6 diesels all common rail now, even the polo I believe. Has to be so to meet Euro 6 emissions. MK V was PD mechanical, hence the noise. Just be sure to use good quality fuel, common rail is far more sensitive to contaminants than PD.

For the record I had a flash Merc give me a tap in the rear going up the levels in the Bris Airport carpark. Was a queue of us going up, guy in front of me stopped, but I guess Mr CEO was a bit close. Hopped out, hole in front bumper of flash merc, bent pin retaining wire on my rear towbar mount. If I had of had the actual tongue and ball in, I reckon I could have gotten his radiator.
I told him not to worry about it and hoped his day got better. That's a plus one for the VW towbar!

lol. i had that happen to me driving a discovery. the guy who crashed into me was obviously pissed off his face, and he started berating me because "towbars are friggin' dangerous, man".
i think that might have had more to do with the fact that he was using a loaner car whilst his own car was at the panel shop (according to him), though.
GTD now has a nasty mark on front left wheel. I found out that the spokes on my beaut wheels stick out further than the tyres, just asking to be wrecked by a low bluestone curb. Oh well, my wife was pleased it wasn't her!
There are places that can repair those marks mate, and they do an amazing job. Worth looking into??

If you can get to MElbourne, try Matt Coleman, Wheel Solutions (Off Church St) Richmond 0412 553455
Matt and his brother Andy do a lot of work for Porsche dealers etc so they know their stuff and and are really great guys.
Are you referring to the MkV or MkVI 103 kW Comfortline, here? I'd be surprised if there was much difference in refinement between the 2.0L common rail engines
